Hmmm.stupid idea ?
« on: December 24, 2020, 07:09:37 PM »
Whilst recovering from fish and chip supper and reading Commando comics I managed to doze off , a combination of a really got yeoman flat top stove and some gin. As I was coming back from the land of nod, inspired by a good Japs and English story I began thinking.
Would it be practical to get one of the cheaper (supersoco) electric motorcycles, fit a box sidecar, install a portable petrol generator as a passenger and plug the charger in to power the bike as it was going along...get the idea ? Will it work...discuss

It would, but you could just fit a bigger battery in the sidecar.  Either way would look pretty awesome.

How big is a nissan leaf battery ?  Probably way too heavy, with a portable generator you could have lights and a kettle when you went camping !

Maybe not too stupid then, I`m thinking of a trials type sidecar,
just looking at the Supersoco machines, around £3k or under for a nearly new, no idea how a sidecar fastens on but I assume it needs a front downtube ? having said that vespas don`t need one, the Supersoco has a cover over the front so can`t tell, there is a dealer nearby, might go for a look next year..

Oh man Rufus I love your thinking but what was it they used to say about some classic motorcycle or other 'a solution looking for a problem'. I have to ask what you are looking to gain or is it just for the fun, in which case go for it and bring it to the next Thumper Club rally please.

Most of the later MZ two strokes (ETZ anyway) had sidecars without front downtubes and zinged about quite happily.
