carb query z250
« on: December 09, 2020, 09:57:03 PM »
My recently acquired Kawasaki z250 ltd has a slide carb fitted and is more or less ok, a bit off on idle. Looking at pictures of other z250`s it appears that they were more often (always ? ) fitted with a cv carb... puzzled, I am beginning to think it has a z200 carb on, can anyone confirm this ?

No idea Rufus. Find an Amal MKI Concentric and then you can twiddle away!  ;)

Pleased the liaison was succesful!

Good health, Bill

From what I can find, the Z250 Ltd had a CV while the Z200 had a 26mm Keihin slide carb.

Evening mr Spooky.... I’m pretty sure Martin (xbally) either has or used to have a Z200. Maybe he can shed some light on the issue for you. Sorry but I can’t help.
Cheers, Michael

Cheers, Michael Yes indeed I did...but...it was only ever a parts project-wish I had kept it now...but no engine or carb I'm afraid-just a basic rolling chassis. I seem to recall there is a Haynes manual that might give some clues about the carb...

Thanks everyone, I think it must have a z200 carb, but it runs fine, I would still like to know which screw is which, see photo, Philip is pointing at one, if photo has shown up,  I haven't got a manual yet but carb looks similar to xl185. I think the one at front is pilot screw and the one at intake side is  throttle stop screw, but don't know what that does anyway !

Aye Rufus,

The screw being pointed at with the Philips screwdriver is the 'Air screw' and the other is the throttle slide screw. From the description, I suspect that the 'Air screw' adjusts the amount of air being admitted to the primary jets fuel flow. So slackening the screw allows more air and weakens the mixture, whilst tightening the screw towards it's seat will reduce the air admitted and richen the mixture, Same as an Amal MKI Concentric and opposite to a Dellorto.

I also attach a link to an exploded diagram and parts list for the 1978 Kawasaki Z200 carburettor. 1978/kz200-a1/carburetor_diagram-parts_list

I suspect that if you don't want to spend a lot of money, but need to renew the carb, you might be as well having a word with johnr about his use of Chinese pattern carbs and from whom he purchased his.

Regards, Bill

Yes, choke lever is a metal rod  ,  at present it works ok apart from a slight fluff at tickover, which I may have sorted, not sure until i get it good and warm, I am more puzzled as to which carb it should have <  anyone got a manual for a z250 single...
