Opinions sought on SLR650 or Vigor

Hi Thumpers

Been vaguely keeping an eye out for one of these for a bit - they often seem very low miles and until recently were VERY cheap (sub-grand) for nice ones. May have missed the boat, as custom crowd hoovering them up to saw up into "scramblers" (really?).

Any advice? MCN review of SLR is terrible, but I'm not a sporty guy. I thought that the slr might effectively be a "Himalayan" at a quarter if the price and without depreciation. And at 20 yrs old, it'll fit on my classic insurance multi-policy!

My other bikes currently are XBR, NTV, and CX.

Whatcher think?

those slr,s are not as quick or look as good as the dominator and they slot in between the nx 650 dommie and the slow and uncomfortable fmx 650.  so the slr  is not a bad bike once you don't except to much from one, a reliable thumper for general use if you got a nice clean one at the right price you wont go wrong ,,,imho,, tommy

Nice bike, very low revving (for a modern single}) but the tiny tank, with about a 120 mile to bone dry, range drove me nuts...

I've had both an SLR and an NX650. Quite nice bikes, not that much real life difference between them. The rear shocks go quickly, the top end can develop rattles as lubrication can be a bit iffy. I found both quite snatchy at low revs but then I was riding them like a Brit big single.... The engine is essentially very similar to your XBR but obviously the riding position is more "trailie".

I lowered my SLR by fitting a Suzuki shock (can't remember the model) and raising the forks through the yokes as my ageing joints were protesting at the seat height.
