Introduction
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:12:58 AM »
Hi i am returning after a long absence, Had an SZR years ago. Currently have a BMW F800S for road trips, A TRX850 track bike for track days (mildly tuned and fettled, and ridden like mad. Its in Yellow speedblock if you get to any trackdays say hi.
Now i have decided to get something i always wanted, A GB500. However its not really in my budget to get one so its going to be an XBR that i will be modifying to somehwere near GB looks.
Looks like something others have done, had a quick trawl round about spoked wheels and there is quite a bit of knowledge here, so thought i better stick around.
All the best, Dave

I second that. A warm welcome Silver. I agree, I think GB500s are out of moist peoples reach theses days. Good luck in your XBR quest, and there is endless info on this site.  :)

If you can find a late SJ model XBR they came with wire wheels. If you were thinking of mixing and matching XBR & GB parts be careful, Tanks while similar are different and GB seats are hinged whereas XBR's aren't. There are some aftermarket seat units that look very similar to GB's. Should make a good project.

Hi there

What a lovely project to take on. I think the GB500 to be one of the nicest bikes to come from the Honda stable and I certainly enjoyed my XBR when I had one. Good luck.

That picture was just a library picture, not my bike.

This is mine an earlier SH.

On the subject of GB500 wire wheels, there's a pair on eBay at the minute, currently sitting at £580 with twenty bids on them. Gore blimey! I've paid less than that for a complete XBR  :-\

Now the Classic scene has 'discovered' them anything GB is getting silly.  A couple of years ago a nice GB could be bought for a bit over 2 grand  now you're looking at that for a rough runner and a nice one is nearer £4K!

The "cafe racer kits" guy has done a kit to convert comstar hubs into spoked.

I don't know if anyone on here has done a conversion using a dommie hub? My brother (moto 63) is currently working on that and seems to be making some headway with it.
