XBR centre stand problem
« on: August 05, 2014, 08:00:36 PM »
I'm getting the XBR ready for it's MOT to get it back on the road again.

Now last time it was MOT'd I had an advisory about the centre stand which had a bit of 'sag' in it - that is to say that when it was up it didn't pull up tight to the bottom of the silencer but hung slightly below though not enough to cause any grounding problems.

I fitted a new main spring ( losing skin in the process!) but it hasn't made much difference. there is a little bit of wobble in the pivot but not much.  The diagram of the main stand set up shows a secondary spring but I can't see it or where it would fit.

Any ideas or advice on where this second spring should fit? - it isn't in the workshop manual as far as I can see.

Thanks.

OK, I've been playing in the garage and managed to suss this one! It's really easy.

For those with the same problem all you need to do is remove the main stand spring ( with the bike on the sidestand - watch your fingers!)  take off the curved metal plate the top of the spring hooks through ( the plate just slips on a hook on the main stand).  Drill a 6mm hole about 6-10mm above the existing hole and refit the plate and spring.  No more sloppy stand!! ( if it's bad it's probably worth fitting a new spring at the same time).
