XBR500: High pitch noise at 80km/h
« on: November 15, 2013, 03:40:26 PM »
Hi all
Hope someone can help me with this. When I reach 80 km/h on my XBR500, most times it is resulting in a high pitch noise, sounds like a electronic noise and not parts touching each other. It stops when I slow down to 30 km/h. It sounds like it is coming from the front part of the bike...

Anyone having an idea what this could be?

Thanks a lot
Dennis

I had this problem some years ago with one of my XBR's and although the memory is't so good I seem to recall it turned out to be an air leak on the carb inlet. Worth looking into anyway.

Hi Dennisnn, Ref the noise from the front area of your bike. Just a thought, when the noise is apparent, have you tried operating the front brake..albeit slightly..? I have come across front pads that seem to cause a certain noise / resonance at certain speeds, and the "buzzing" that emenated from the caliper was certainly hard to pin-point. Let us know how you get on. Regards... Tony

"Unfortunately" it does not seem to have a leak :/

I have tried this, but still does not seem to help the problem...

My XBR developed a high pitched buzz/rattle once and it turned out to be the tax disc holder ( mounted on one of the headlamp bolts) that was just vibrating against the fork stanchion at a certain speed - there was a tiny gap between them, but not enough to stop it buzzing and the XBR does have a vibration patch at around 50mph(80kph).  Just a thought.
