Stick coil on a single?

Hello,
Long time lurker here

I mhave a 400cc suzi single(attached to a burgman) and the spark is really crap-I also in the other hand have a stick coil from a ducati-the stick coil is rated at less than 1ohm and the suzi one should be between 3-5ohms
my question is what uprated coils are there for singles? or should i try this coil with extra resistance?

What makes you think the spark is poor, are you having trouble with starting ?

Yep, its crap, last night I got to the best at 2235 and i should be home by around 2300-arrived at 0040
I have put two battries on it so it cranks better(12volts more amps) I have a spark so it may be something else, my next thing to look at is the electronic fuel enrichment circuit

If its slow to crank over then have you looked into earthing problems

I wouldn't swap the coils as they have very different characteristics. Adding resistance will reduce the spark and in any case it may still burn out as the dwell time is likely to be too long.
If the battery is good and its charging OK then I would check the earth strap from the battery to the frame.

Thanks for the replys, I have got it starting by going really rich on startup, I have binned the stick coil idea, I am going to buy a spare starter motor and refurb that and clean/replace all the heavy gauge wire

ok check your earths, check your earths and err, check your earths. 75% of all bike electrical issues are down to crap earths why not make up a temp earth wire from your engine straight to the battery and another from the frame to the battery. i wouldnt bother with stick coils, you will just muddy the waters i think. does the engine spin fast on the starter, have you done all the usual checks, spark plug, ignition switch, battery voltage, charging voltage when running etc?

Thanks for the reply, I have done all the usual checks, It probably is the wiring, i have a week off soon so I will strip and rebuild the starter, its no faster when I connect the car battery to it

I ran a new bit of largish wire from the earth and cleaned the orig, so far it has started on the button, after 10 or so seconds
I will see if i can get new bushes and overhall the starter next week

most auto electrical centres will have a selection of carbon brushes in stock, if you cant find a perfect match in size, you can usually get something slightly larger and file it down to size. also if the armature end is 'thruppeny bit' shaped, then either pop it in a lathe and carefully spin it down, or if you havent got access to a lathe, then put the armature in a drill and using a strip of emery gently clean it up till its nice and round.
