XT600E STARTER MOTOR PROBLEM?? HELP!!!

Hi I thought my starter motor was playing up on my 2003 XT600E. It was just spinning like mad, but not turning the engine over. I finally tracked a new starter  which I fitted ok, but the problem is still there. Someone suggested the Solenoid which I have replaced, but its still just spinning like mad!!
Before I waste any more money trying to sort it out, does anyone have any suggestions please?? desperate to get back on the road asap :-(

Yhere's a sort of centrifugal clutch under the starter that often fails. Your starter is and was obviously good, as it whirrs around; but the failure to engage is due to a problem in the clutch, possibly a busted spring.

starter clutch. you should have asked here first. we could have saved you the cost of a starter and solenoid. its the starter clutch for sure.

theres a new one on ebay but its 150 quid and its in taiwan!!
