SRX 400 not running without choke
« on: August 26, 2011, 03:23:28 AM »
Just cleaned both carbs and set everything to what it was. Fired up fine and ran well for a couple blocks, now it will only run with the choke on. Have it on remote fuel tank so nothing in fuel delivery system can be to blame. Plug was black so I replaced that, same thing with new plug. Checked float level on asembly and all seemed well. Few people in my area even know what my bike is much less have any knowledge regarding duel carb singles. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers, Bob from B.C.

It seems odd it will only run with the choke on and you have a black plug (which is probably because the choke is on) I would have expected that if the choke was the only way will run then the pug would be the correct colour.
When you say it will not run what happens, does it fluff and not respond well to the throttle. ?
I take you have tried new fuel ?

ahh, when you say you cleaned both carbs, how thorough were you?... they are a labrynth of galleries, pipes and jets.. It sounds to me as though there is still some grot around which is impeding the fuel through the main jet.. its a pain of a job, but take them out and give them another purge, preferably with an airline and even better in an ultrasonic bath

Don't have access to an ultrasonic bath but they were well blown out with air. It sounds as if it just runs out of fuel when it dies but fuel flows steady when I open the screw on the bottom of the carb. It fires up right away and runs quite fast with the choke on, faster than seems normal. Does the same thing with fuel tank on as when using remote fuel tank.
