We do some years just to get off site for a bit.I am a lazy git when it comes to cooking and I like to try and get something to eat that isn't a rallyburger.

What? Have none of us ever wandered up to that pub near the Capel Curig site, nor taken a saunter to the bar in Solla at the Elephant Rally? What about that great cafe at the A5 services near Capel Curig? I seem to remember every Dragoneer I know sat in there sipping from their pint mugs of tea on rally day.

In fact if you peruse any of the old-timer stories on the various Dragon Rally sites you will see that pub outings have been a feature since the rally began.

To my mind it's the riding to the event and camping over that marks you as a true Dragoneer, not how you choose to spend your time in between. Where would you draw the line? would you contend that the marquee is out of bounds because it has a roof and walls? Were the cafes at Caernarvon airport and Ty Croes empty because real Dragoneers refused to accept the comfort of a soft seat out of the wind?

Steady on GC, I wasn't making any judgment regarding the authenticity of the experience or what might consitute "a true Dragoneer" what ever that might be. I was merely hazarding to suggest that there is plenty to occupy oneself without resort to the pub.

It all depends on how far the Pub/Cafe is !

Dont see the point in trudging miles...but if it is realtively close then by all means.
I have been known to go for Tiffin and a swift Port and Lemon on the way back.

is it possible the dragon is at the site that was used a couple of years ago by the copper mine at bedgellert? as for going the pub,we go nearly every year for a couple of hours if only for a bit of a warm.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            would anybody have any objections if i could persuade the sunbeamers i will be traveling with to join in with the smoking jacket and cap theme

Crikey no! It was great fun last time and, as I said, it's a very easy theme to choose because the kit weighs little, takes up hardly space in your luggage and looks sooooo funny when donned.

You can buy smoking caps on Ebay, but anyone who can use a sewing machine can make one in no time. I used a florid scarf I bought in a charity shop as the basis for my cap. The tassle on top was originally a curtain tie-back.
