things (biking) you've got to do before you die.....??
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:22:30 PM »
well, the 'die' bit is a long way off for all of us yet I trust........but two things i'm determined to do.....

1) Ride a modern 'kneeler' round a ciruit for a few laps (anyone know where i can borrow one?), i raced one in the 60,'s front exit chair and a hillman imp engine, did 2 seasons, couldn't afford to keep replacing the poxy imp engines which seemed to fall to bits with monotonous regularity.

2) Try a speedway bike, see if i can get to drift on the shale, they do do weekend courses here in Kings Lynn, but cost about 300 quid....bit out of my price range....Always fancied that i could do it, be great to be proved wrong!..

Yep, I'd agree with those. Incidentally Classic Racer have a test in the current issue with Steve Webster driving a front exit chair Imp outfit.

I've always wanted to have a crack at speedway, but as you say £300 is a lot of wonga.

I'd really like to do a big ride one day, say 10,000 miles or more across Europe and beyond to wherever is still passable by westerners, but I reckon I missed my chance with that, my youngest won't be 20 until I'm 60.

Riding the Ikuzawa around the IOM is another fantasy ride tugging at me.

ride the mont blanc tunnel on a gold star. 14 miles of tunnel, should be nicely deaf by the half way mark. not sure about the possibility of creating an avalanche or two?

also be nice to turn up at a harley meet on a vincent, and congratulate them on making the worlds second best v-twin ;-)

Don't count on it. I'd hate to makie a list of the friends of my age Ive had to say goodbye to over the last ten years. (I'm 48)
In fact my optimistic mood for 07 was spoiled by hearing that one of my great friends and colleagues the same age had suffered a huge coronary and his prospects were bleak. A few days later and we are all hoping for the best.

Do IT now. Whatever IT is. This is not a dress rehearsal.

Sorry to be a bit morbid. Biking wise I think I'd like to have a go on a Yamaha TZ 350 OW or whatever they were called..
