engine rubbers
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:47:11 PM »
have noticed my srx engine is missing some of the rubber pieces that sit between the engine fins...does anyone know what or where i can get suitable pieces to replace them...is it possible to buy rubber in a block that can be cut to fit? ALso got problems with front brake reservoir. Have fitted new brake lines but no fluid pumping through from master cykinder...is it just a case of putting an air line to it to clear it?
many thanks

Aye beezer764,

Rubber blocks! Mmmm, probably still available from Yamaha (at a price!), you will find the part numbers on SteveH' website: SRX600

As for the master cylinder? You may find that there is an air lock at the back of the piston in the master cylinder, blasting with an airline may cause more damage/mess than clearing! Try 'back bleeding' using a 250ml syringe attached to the bleed nipple of the caliper to introduce brake fluid into the system, with the brake lever held back against the bar. You maybe horrified or surprised at the speed of bleeding the system and the amount of gunge that maybe moved.

You may also find others have their own methods and wheezes to get around a common problem. Airlines, unless the whole system is stripped out and free from fluid, sound a bit lary to me.

Whatever you use, I hope you find some front brake.

My regards, Bill.

well, all the rubbers on my srx disappeared long ago to no ill effect.....i think they are simply for noise reduction (ringing)

bleeding the 'bleeding' front brakes on the srx is a right pain, takes me ages!  on the srx's I've done a rebuild on, I've run 2 pipes direct from the master cylinder using a double length banjo bolt, makes bleeding a lot easier.

you just have to keep at it basically, it has taken me hours, but eventually it will start to come through, i have, on occasions put 1/2 a litre through before they are completely air free.

I sometimes keep the brake lever tied up against the handlebar overnight just to let the air "find its own way back"......it does actually work for me...but sometimes you have to pump the front brake lever, THEN undo the nipple and then do it up again quickly. As Steve says its sometimes a game of patience.
Best of luck.

PS the rubber blocks are there to stop "ringing" of the casting at certain frequencies..The jury is still out (even after all these years) as to wether they do what they are supposed to.

thanks for all your comments...i might rob my 400 of its rubbers for the 600:) ..the 600 is a rebuilt bike and i have put twin lines going straight to callipers with double banjo bolt at master cylinder (lines are venhill)..in half an hour or so of pumping we had no fluid of any quantity coming through the bleed nipple..I disconected lines from calliper to see if problem was in calliper and also from master cylinder and it looks as if fluid not clearing the master cylinder ...but i maybe wrong.

Aye Martin,

Firstly, my sincere apologise, 50ml, not 250ml!  ::)

Go and have a polite word with a 'horse doctor' large animal vet!  ;) They, or a medical supplies wholesaler should have them 'on the shelf'. Alternatively, these are available here: 50ml syringe  ;D ;D ;D I don't think this price extortionate.

I bought a job lot of these a while ago, with the plastic adaptor and the length of soft plastic tube which fits over a 'standard' beed nipple  very well, making for a 'leak free' set up. Just remember to remove the end of the tube and side hole afore trying to slide over the nipple!!!!!!!!!! ;) ;)

Regards, Bill.

Aye Martin,

30ml would do the job no bother. If you click on the 'link' I've put in my previous mail, I don't think the price is bad, if you need another or two!

My regards, Bill.
