Really Dumb ass XBR500 question.. Be Warned!
« on: December 30, 2009, 05:42:48 PM »
As people may know from my intro' a few months ago I have been away from Bikes for a good many years.  I got my licence and then went Ape buying stuff. Ended up with 6 bikes!
Managed to lose all of them at last, total giveaway prices but..., and am  now left with the Fishcake (Honda ANF 125) and the XBR 500 (S-J model).  I've had it for about 6 months and have only been out on it once in that time.  This afternoon I got my wossnames in my hands and got the bike out. After 3 months of standing in a garage it kicked up in a few tries and seemed to run well enough. It is LOUD though so I think a silencer change might be on the books in the future.
ANYWAY!  Dumb Question time ::)
I have a problem with close range vision at the moment and I realised that I couldn't see the markings on the petrol tap ring.  Lever, not the arrow on the lever, goes up, down or right. Which is on, off and reserve?
God I am so embarassed at having to ask that but it's better than finding myself away from home with no petrol.

From memory.... (need to go to the garage to check and that's not possible right this moment)
Down for on, up for reserve and sideways for off.

Will try to remember to check later  ;)

Just checked, the main part of the lever down, as I remembered, for on.. that leaves the embossed arrow pointing at the "on" stamped in the top of the tap. Opposite for reserve and sideways is indeed off.

Very few daft questions, and not as daft as not asking and getting caught out!  ;)

Thanks again Smudge. I have to admit that, even with glasses on, I can't see the "On" or "Reserve" stampings on the tap!  Maybe it's a pattern fuel tap that somebody put on in the past?
