SRX400 exhaust
« on: April 12, 2009, 06:42:32 PM »
Hi,
I have an SRX400 which has a small hole in the exhaust pipe just back from where the down pipes connect. Is it possible to weld it or would I be better to try and find a replacement. Next question, does anyone have a good one sat in a shed? I have seen one or two after market pipes but some how they don't look as neat as the standard one.

Aye chippit,

Are you sure the hole isn't the drain hole to get rid of the condensation? A blob of weld would probably fill it, but if that makes the silencer rot from the inside.....! ???

The standard pipe mat 'chuff', weigh a fair bit, etc. but they last and take a fair bit of abuse. Rub it down and give it  a good coat of sump oil, regular, and it should last a good while.

My regards, Bill.

Hi Bill,
The hole is on the top side not underneath (where I would have expected a drain hole.)
I think I will try a blob of weld to get it through the summer, and take it off in the winter.
Went to work early on Sunday, my other half said 'wasn't it a bit early for starting the lawn mower!'
Regards Christine.

Hi,
The standard SRX silencer is built like a tank.....so should take a weld ok, as long as it's not gone paper thin, in which case you may have to weld a patch on.....strange to get a hole in the top.....I would imagine the battery breather pipe is hanging over the top of the silencer (instead of routing down in the right hand corner of the swingarm) and acid has rotted a hole in it.....?
There are some good aftermarket silencers about, don't know whether they still make them, but I have a slightly modified predator on #4, whose pic you can see in the current gallery, about half way down
