CG125 question..
« on: August 10, 2008, 06:26:07 PM »
Ok as some of you know swmbo has/had an old NSR125R which is currently lying behind the garage minus engine as 1. it's a 2-smoke and therefore broke 2. I'm no expert on stinkwheels so took it apart, frowned a lot and then got distracted by working on proper bikes  ;) :P

So I was feeling alittle guilty recently and started to wonder if a CG125 motor might fit in the hole? After all, that's more or less what a cbr125r is!

Anyone able to provide a rough height/width/length of a CG motor?

I wont get to it 'til I return to these climes next summer but it could be a good thing to get stuck into upon my return...  :)

Surely you can work out how the old Clark Cycle works !
There are only 3 moving parts, very simple !

What is the trouble with the old motor ?
Bearings and seals ? Compression ?      The old favourite Lack Of Oil ?

The two stroke cycle is simple... but then they add yips kips powervalves, small dogs on unicycles etc etc  ;) ;D

It's blown the big end... and I just wondered if making it a thumpette would be a whole lot less aggro in the longer term!

You could probably shoehorn a 250 or even a 350 into that chassis, maybe XT or DR or even XR250, wouldn't be overstressed either. I reckon the CG would be a little on the gutless side compared to the original engine and you would have to thrash it to within an inch of its life to get similar performance to the stroker.

So long as I get it back you can borrow an empty set of cases and a barrel, may even have a head too.

Would be a short term loan as I will end up deciding to need them just as I put them in the post.

Failing that I will take some measurements when you return.

I've got a spare CG125 motor here Smudge, although it needs some attention.
