info. on SRX400
« on: May 30, 2008, 07:59:40 PM »
Hi,
So far I have found this forum very useful. I have just bought a 1986 SRX400 which has been off the road since 1996, it has been stored in the dry so is in reasonable condition, I am having trouble finding technical info on this bike such as valve clearances, type of engine oil, carb settings etc. I realise that is an import but do not know have many parts are similar to the SRX600. I would be very grateful for any information that will help me get this bike on the road!

Many thanks Christine.

Aye Christine,

Please keep dropping in and adding to the melee!

This is an alternative site that you might care to have a look around:

http://srx400.co.uk/

Let us know how you get on and enjoy your bike.

My regards, Bill.

Great bike....you should get on well with it, being 1986, i assume it has a single disc front brake
and similar in every other respect to the '86 srx600? is yours kick start or electric start?
If so, the vast majority of the settings are the same as the srx600...and the 600 service manual can be used for most of the work.....parts can be got through a good yamaha dealer

not sure where you are....but tinklers in norwich carry an old parts fiche for 400's and are usually very helpful

I have piles of 400 bits if you need anything

you will probably looking for new tyres, bridgestone BT45's are the tyre of choice for most srx'ers

carb settings.....well the carbs are pretty much maintenance free.......you may just need to really clean them out well,  availability of an air line is a real bonus for this

tappet clearances are the same as the 600

I have a copy of the srx600 manual on cd......i can copy it and send it to you if its of any use

anyway, get it on the road soon and enjoy the summer....good luck

Thanks for the replies,
The SRX has a single front disc and yes although the metzlers that are on it look O.K(not cracked or worn) I'm not sure how old they are. Thankyou Steve for the offer of a manual would be fantastic I will
send you my email. Can anyone recommend where to get things like airfilter, oilfilter, fork seals etc.

It has been 15 years since I had a bike, I saw an SRX 600 when they were brand new and loved it but was worried that I would not be able to start it, (being a lightweight short **se.) I still don't know how I will get on and I have never seen one on the road.

Many thanks for your help   Christine.

airfilter, oilfilter and fork seals are the same as the twinshock SRX600 :-X

you can try 'Busters' or a yamaha dealer

yahaha part nos are  fork seals 49a-23145-00-00
you'll need a circlip, usually corrode 4a1-23156-00-00
air filter                                1jk-14451-01-00
oil filter                                4x7-13440-90-00
these are from my SRX600 1JK series microfiche  the numbers may be superceded but a yamaha dealer will be able to transpose them ok
You can get the oilfilter from halfords and i use their semisynthetic motorcycle oil
