Another motorcyclist's life changed...
« on: September 13, 2006, 02:27:51 PM »
A good friend of mine was taken off his bike a couple nights ago,

At the moment he is having his legs pinned together and his knee replaced with a hinge.

Apparently was another case of, 'oops didnt see you, mate'

Im considering buying a reflective jacket as a result

Very sorry to hear that,  they don't see you because they dont look. You could buy a dayglo reflective jacket or cover yourself with fairy lights but if they dont look they are still not going to see you.

Only thing you can do is buy quality leathers, boots, gloves and helmet (doesn't have to be expensive to be good), stay alert at all times and imagine every car is about to suddenly swerve and hit you.

The driving test is too easy.

Good point Mr Hop. If cage drivers had to do half what motorcyclists had to do to get their licence we'd all be safer, but it aint practical to have two years or whatever driving a Nissan Micra I'm afraid.

Please pass on our collective best wishes to your mate and lets all hope he gets a full and speedy recovery.

Have to agree with jhop, your best bet for keeping safe is to ride defensively, but I s'pose a bit of dayglo wont hurt. Only thing with it (IMHO) is it gives the rider a false sense of safety. You go around (or at least I did) assuming everyone can see you, then get caught out when one blind bu99er doesn't :-0
