I have fitted a pressure gauge to my SRX6.As Steve says it only reads between 20 and 30 Lbs on start up then drops of to minimum reading when warm, the pressure builds up if you rev the engine. If you are still going to fit one i can send you a photo of my setup if you want.

Thanks for the reply, maybe I ought to look for a pressure guage with a 0-50lbs range, I'm not too bothered what the guage reads, I would just like to know what is normal so I can stop the engine if the guage reads abnormal figures. I know the engine is getting enough lube (I bought a SRX 600 engine from a breakers, started it up for the first time 2 years later without the rev counter drive fitted, and it p*ssed oil out everywhere after about 4 seconds)

I would like to see how you have got your guage connected, can you post the pictures up on this site ? or maybe post a link to photobucket or similar site ??

Cheers John

HI All

what is normal? - who knows, there is 'normal' for neot melting pistons etc, but I guess if we ran an SRX over a couple of years in Essex and in Port Talbot area we would get two different data sets - one fro an area where it rains and rains and rains but there is little traffic (relative) and one whre the temperature is high because of all the shoulder pads adding to the insulation and discarded knickers get caught in the fins - hold on we do not have shoulder pads here - well we do but they are internal and cover the whole body.  I guess fit pressure / temp thingy and then mark the area between start up and 10 mins as - blue - cold, 20 mind and bored with - green - normal and then a red patch.  It does not matter what the actual temp / pressure etc is, it matters what is normal for your engine...
Similar but different tack - as a 'youth' I was in hospital having had my appendix slashed out - why has my sister a neat scar of 1 inch and 1 stitch and I have one that is over 6" long and 11 stitches.. - I was kept in becae my heart rate was abnormal.  My swimming coach came to see how I was doing and chatted up the nurses (mmmmmm) who told him why I was kept in, and showed him my heart rate readings - to which he nodded and said "they are a bit high" - after a little conversation it turned out the medical staff were worried because my resting HR was below 40 - indicative of sommat wrong, whilst my coach saw a reading of above 35 of above 35 as odd - it is all relative.

Mind if in setting the coloured dots on the bike the engine regurgitates its piston - I did nto write the above.

Alan.

Thanks for posting the pics, as your engine looks slightly different to mine I assume you have the electric start version. How did you connect the gauge union to the engine near the oil filter ? Is there already some sort of thread/bung there on the later model ? If I do fit a guage I will probably connect it via an oil cooler union.

Hi
Yes my bike has a electric start engine and the point that i have used for the gauge would normaly have a pipe that feeds round into the inner casing to drip onto the fith gear but the engine has been split and the standard SRX inner casing has been retained so it can keep the same engine number. You can drill and tap a hole through the same place as far as i know.
