Morning Pete, I'm pretty sure the skorpion was based around the yam XT engine and running gear. Stand to be corrected on this as I'm defo not a skorpion expert. Maybe it's a nod to yam??  Ron?

Indeed Michael, quite right, though I suspect MZ would have focused on the fact that the engine is in fact a Minareli unit, made in Italy and used in all the XT660 Yam derivatives....

Ah...there ya go ya see, you've educated me somewhat on the skorpion/XT. I never knew it was an Italian built engine. Like (I think it was timbo said) everyday is a school day. Thanks for enlightening me to the fact.    Cheers, Michael

Yep one of the reasons I went for the Skorpion is the Yamaha XTZ660 5 valve engine. Even from the factory the bike was a bitsa, Suzuki wheels, KTM switchgear on some models, and I put the Yamaha decals on it for the confusion factor!
