XBR Cam chain guide
« on: May 26, 2014, 09:11:38 AM »
Opened up the engine of my Xbr, bought bike, with no knowing the history of the engine. The motor ran well and flushed it through with fresh oil a couple of times, and changed the oil filter twice.
Took the clutch cover off,and checked the screen filter, all I found was black "snot" like bits on the screen, on further inspection, the cam chain seemed a little sloppy. The black snot I put down to over zealous use of sealant on gaskets.[not me]
Next move, took the rocker cover off,on closer inspection found the front cam guide broke in half! Mileage, 40,000, on this engine, cam and rockers not looking bad , and no smoke from the engine .Black snot ?cam guide material.
No damage to the engine, new cam chain, chain guides, autotension spring, and cam bearings.
Be warned ,look out for black bits on  the oil screen, worth a look , when doing an oil change.
No, other damage was found in the engine, this might have happened due to the age of the engine, plastic and oil??
But the 1mm metal strip inside the guide was snapped in half.
                                                                                   Happy Motor biking :)

Hi
My XBR ate the camchain guides too. It didn't quite break them in half but they were really mashed up. It was running fine, it was just a slight rattle that caused me to investigate  :)
