Petrol tap leak

I had to remove and replace the petrol tap on my tank. However when i welded it in place it seamed air tight, I flushed water through it and no leaks though the welds. But now there is petrol it the tank the tap is slightly wet with petrol.

I really don't fancy taking the tank off, so is there like a sealant or past i could apply over the welds that will plug the minuscule leak up?

you might have to usze one of the many fuel tank sealants that are on the market, i prefer por15, but there are many available. unfortunately petrol is a much more fluid substance than water and a leak that wont show with water will be revealed by petrol.

Thanks John, i was looking at all the different sealers around. Just ordered one so ill post back on how it holds up.

My dad always says that "petrol is so much thinner then water". However i ignored that .. .

had the same myself many times. i suppose braizing might make a better seal. when using sealers though you need to be careful to make suer it can cope with upto E10 petrol, as the alcohol in modern fuel tends to attack most tank sealers eventually.

not sure where your leak is from, if its the tap, then you will need a new o-ring on the connection of the tank.
If the actual tank is leaking, I would braze it, I have tried sealants, waste of time/money/effort.I would pressurize the tank with air and use some soapy water on the out side to find the leaks and braze them.which ever way there are no short cuts.
