cams that fit xbr head
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:47:55 AM »
Hi all
asking for info in cams from rfvc motors that fit xbr heads. After reading through a few bits on here it seems that the domi motors are the different cam but???
Have an xr600 motor I got for various parts. Hoping I can use the cam for a regrind. Any info appreciated.
cheers

The RFVC XR600 cam will work very well as it is, my original modified cam was supposedly done to XR specs. If you run the cam as is then you won't get issues with the angle of the tappets which can be a problem with a regrind.

Thanks for the info. Let me get this right. Your modified xbr cam was ground to xr spec?
What were you trying to achieve?

It was a low budget build for a race bike but it idled well and was very flexible with a good power boost. The full spec was 'xr' cam, 10.25:1 piston, mild porting, a lightened flywheel and a 40mm Amal carb. On its first outing I ran with open downpipes but the noise inspector wasn't keen on that  ;D

Have stripped the xr600 and found a few problems.  To be expected. Got it cheap. Exhaust rocker has worn badly creating a depression in the cam lobe. Will have to mix n match from the xbr cover and hunt for another cam. Clutch basket is missing. But all the other bits match and should be able to salvage spare gears, kick starter, head and oil pump. Fly wheel is usable and other bits n pieces, so not a complete waste of coin. Disappointed that the cam needs work. The task continues...

my dr650 had, in its previous owners hands, a similar problem due to the cam eating into the follower through the hardening. the guy sent it to phil joy at joy cams who built the cam and the follower up with stelite and then ground it back to standard spec, and it didnt cost too much either. useful if you cant find a decent used part.
