Suzuki GN400 clutch pull

I have just bought a 1982 Suzuki GN400 T which is an absolute hoot, but the clutch requires a very hefty pull which I find difficult as I have some tendon damage in my left hand. Other than fitting a clutch lightener (as on my ER5) or extending the clutch arm does anyone know if there are any known fixes for making this clutch lighter?

try a fresh cable with a nylon liner and route it correctly. poor routing and corroded cables are often the cause of a heavy action. i remember my gn and its clutch wasnt really that heavy.

Thanks bud. As the bike is new to me I'm still working through the little gremlins inevitable with a 31 year old bike, but good suggestion I will give it a go.

There's also the old trick of lubricating the cable. Disengage it from the lever so it can stick up straightish. Tale some heavy paper and cut a biggish triangle from it. roll it into a cone with the small end around the ferule. Trim the paper so it will hold some oil. Use white paper glue to stick the edges together and seize the cone to the ferrule with several turns of sewing thread. Press the glued edges together to make sure the thing won't leak. Leave it to dry for 10 minutes then fill it with engine oil. Pull and push the cable to start the oil moving down the inside. After a wee bit gravity will start to suck the oil down. When it runs out the lower end you're done.

or else, leave the blue peter cable lube kit well alone and buy a hydraulic cable oiler. it will be the best investment you ever make.
