SRX400 tyre sizes
« on: March 14, 2013, 12:21:48 AM »
Hi
Got myself a SRX400 last year and due to it be my only transport the tyres need changing but im unsure if the ones fitted at the moment are the correct ones. They are front 100 80 17  and rear 130 70 18. Done a bit of research and from what i can find on SRX600.com they say my model SRX400 2NY the jap(grey) import they should be 100 90 17 and 120 80 18. They are the original rims as far as i can tell has any got any recommendations as to what they use or does it really matter that much (apart form rim size of course....!!)
Thanks
Andy

Aye Andy,

Welcome!  ;D

Suggest you have a look at this table on the SRX400 UK site: SRX400UK

On my 600 fitted with 1987 400 17" front wheel with single disc and 18" rear, I use the 100 x 80 x 17 and the 120 x 80 x 18 Avon Roadster. Good grip and longevity as singles can trash rear tyres pretty quickly if ridden with verve on the throttle! ;)

Wider tyres just induce nasty 'rolling effects', pick up on white lines or grooved surfaces and at worst induce weaving or tank slappers at speed!  :-[ Been there when I allowed a tyre fitter to tell me that I "needed" a 110 x 80 x 17 on the front! ??? Not nice!

All the best, Bill.

most of the stuff on the standard carbs are the same on both 400 and 600....obviously jets , neenles etc arn't.
after trying many different types i think the Battleaxe 120x80x18 and 100x80x18 are by far the best all round tyre.... even good for the odd track day  ;D
