GB 500 CDI Mk6
« on: May 06, 2011, 04:50:03 PM »
The Mk6 CDI of my Clubman has gone.

As far as I could find out you can´t get a new one but the MN9 CDI (Dominator, XR650L) fit as well with a few changes.

Does anybody know how to handle that problem and what I have to adapt?

Hi there,

Could you not use an XBR Unit?  Timing at idle is the same but whereas the Mk6 unit has full advance at 21 degrees BTDC @ 4000rpm the Mk4 XBR unit is 29 degrees BTDC @ 5000rpm.  There are plenty of XBR units secondhand on Ebay. The engine is on both bikes is the same. I'm not certain it would work but I would be suprised if it didn't.

Hallo Steve,

sorry, but you do have to be surprised cause the XBR and the GB500 CDI´s are not interchangeable. The plugs are the same, but the electric circuit is completely different.

Most people think the motorcycles are nearly identical, but that´s not true.

I found and bought an used Mk6 CDI (EUR 125,00!!!) and everything is fine.

PS. At least I sold the GB500 last month. Within five years we had 28 000 miles and a lot of fun. Now there is a Belgarda SZR 660. And the thumpershow goes on.
