Mid Wales road info

Anyone here ridden the B4518 North out of Llanidloes?

It just looks like a good alternative to slogging up that section of the A470.

Oh yes many times. It is a road in two parts really. The first bit up to the turn off to Mach is lovely and fast, if you are not a complete blouse like me. The second half is a complete pain in the arse. Not particularly exciting and from what I recall small and full of seemingly pointless little hamlets. Best option is to take the mountain road for Mach and then up the "coast road" from there.

Hope this helps

Hi #1, I was on the B4518 a few weeks ago, on a return trip from Devils Bridge, and what a lovely road it is too. The section by the lake is like a roller coaster, okay on DR BIG, but you may struggle uphill on an XBR with chair. Go on try it, you know you want to.

Where does the mountain road start? I am tied to having brekkie outside Llanidloes (Dolwen garage cafe) and although I don't mind the little detour back to LLanidlioes, I can't take too many detours.

Back into Llanidloes and over the Mountain road into Mach.  The road starts by the Hospital.  You'll be with Steve and I, we know it well.

Of course the other option is to take the road from Vyrnwy over to Bala, an absolute cracker, then over to Trawsfynydd.  Utterly superb pair of roads.

Or all three and wriggle our way up !

Its the journey that matters.

Ah yes, Jethro says that in early 1995 in a torrential downpour I was indeed led along that road. It is safe to say, however, that I had other things on my mind at the time, enroute to my first Dragon and soaked to the skin.

Mind you I'm not convinced, I seem to remember getting it all wrong on that really sharp left turn at the level crossing outside Caersws (one of the most annoying corners in Wales) and if we had gone on the B road we would have missed that section.
It was all so long ago...

No matey, and judging by my current position, it's a good job too :-( Doc said today I should expect to be out of action for 6-8 weeks and biking was a big NO NO! Getting seriously bored now, I cant even play in my shed :-(
