SRX tuning advice sought

I received this mail from a local thumper owner who is recovering from a nasty accident on his Moto 6.5.

He wants advice on how to make his SRX a better bike. Any thoughts?

"As said on the phone, the Aprilia moto is now going to the scrapper.
The insurance (fully comp) still doesn't cover the cost of doing the
work required to get it back on the road.  So to plan 2, spend the
remaining money on the SRX. As you know it's a 600 with so kick start
only. It does need a replacement kick start lever.
Advice please on what to spend money to make better what is a nice but
slightly worn bike.

Exhaust, k&ns and dynojet kit, frees up lots of ponies.
Sort chassis out so that it goes round corners better and stops quicker. Better fork springs, drop forks through yokes to quicken steering, check rearshocks and swinging arm bearings and replace as needed. Improve brakes by fitting fj 1100 or early fj1200 calipers to the front, goodrich type hoses.
nothing too expensive if items bought on ebay etc.
That should do for starters, any more and the engine needs coming out and being worked on. Then its how much you want to spend and what do you want to use it for?
No doubt everyone else has different ideas which is good as it doesn't pay to be all the same.

I agree with Beeman but the oversize calipers on the front brakes he mentions are really not necessary as the standard ones are more than adequate for the job. Only badly set up ones are crap. If you don't believe me try mine sometime!

My biggest boost to performance which works on all bikes is the cheapest and hardest to achieve.

As a student I got a new pair of NHS glasses - best tuning aid I ever got - woooowwwwww being able to see!  Then I got some contact lenses and a pair of polaroid glasses with the polarisation different in each lens - oooooooh drain covers and over banding come up to meet you, changes in tarmac can look like steps - really slowed me down.  Mind I guess all things are relative to a student on a 350LC..
