SRX600 oil cooling???

Yo, time again for some info off the SRXperts.

From what I understand, the UK market bikes don't have an oil cooler, is this due to the British climate?

Is it suggested anywhere at all that the oil coolers could be covered up for use here especially as the weather is getting colder or is it better just to leave them open.

Any advice would be good.

I used to cover mine over in the winter, but to be fair it never saw a lot of use during the winter. A thermostat, with a cold bypass would help but they are pricey

I have an oil cooler on mine (jap import) i also run a temperature gauge in the oil tank.....basically the engine runs the oil at the same temp winter and summer.....85 - 100 depending on riding style....just takes maybe 5 - 8 miles longer to get up to 'normal' I havn't tried blanking the cooler, it's such a poxy little thing i don't see it making a great deal of difference.....i don't have a cooler on either track bike and they run at 100 ish

Can the oil cooler and pipes be removed and the outlet/inlet on the engine plugged or would they have to be looped, ie. is there an internal bypass, is it different internally to a UK model.

as far as i'm aware you can blank them off.....i say this, because one of the srx's i've sold was a uk version (no oil cooler, just a couple of flats on the case where the pipes would be) the new owner had these drilled out and an oil cooler fitted.....

If you look closely at the cases, the bleed bolt below the oil filter goes into an oilway which connects the two bosses the oil cooler fits onto. On the bikes with the oil cooler the bolt is longer, blocking the oilway and forcing the oil round the cooler.
Going back to the original question on whether its worth covering the cooler over in winter, one option might be to use a shorter bolt, so the oil bypasses the cooler. Not tried this myself.

hi, mines an import which looks to have had one at some point but now has blanking bolts instead so you could remove and plug but im sure it will be fine as is?
