Hot starting problems-SRX600

I am having problems starting my SRX600 twin shock when it is hot. It is fine starting when on choke and cold but it takes quite a few kicks when it is hot, stopping for petrol is a problem. Does anyone have any tips? It will sometimes back fire and then go.

mmmmm this is a known problem with SRX's....strangely not one i've suffered from on the 5 I have owned....with a variety of carb/timing/tuning variations....

but from what i've read, places to look are....fuel level in the float chamber....
problem with the vacuum operated fuel tap.....
coil breaking down when hot......
automatic decompressor out of adjustment.....
intermittent problem with sidestand switch (uk models only)....

Another one to add to the list is a choke thats stuck in the on position.

Fuel vapourisation in a hot carb, maybe?  Or is that just old Brit singles?

I have disconnected the side stand switch,
Rebuilt the fuel tap with a kit from NRP,
so that rules those out, I have set the float to 27.5 it was at 28 and was running very rich, missing when shutting down the throttle, it now runs nicely. It has a K and N air filter but other than that it is all standard, possibly running a touch weak.
It was suggested to me that it might be vapour locking, how do you get round this, keep it running on tick over for a while before shutting off?
I am still not sure I have the auto decompresser set properly but I will check.
I will richen it up with the pilot screw a tad and see if that makes any difference.

Aha, like that time we were riding around Normandy! I'd forgotten about that, a rare glitch with a SteveH-prepped machine.

I have had chance today to adjust the pilot screw, 1/8th of a turn out was enough to richen it up.
It seems to be starting without any problems.
Mind you that was probably because I didn't have to be anywhere and there was nobody around!

My SRX did this and despite thorough going over, it turned out to be the reg/rec and battery were both knackered. After changing both i've  never had a problem since.

Now this IS strange, both SteveH, myself and many others are of the opinion that the state of the regulator and battery do not affect the starting (this on the twinshock 400/600) but we continue to hear this, and obviously these fixes work.....so...there must be occasions where the faulty regulator (i cannot believe a duff battery can stop the srx starting, unless of course it bu55ers up the regulator) in some way disrupts the output of the generator.....I know on my old bantam (my first bike) that when i put the lights on the ignition got very poor, i suppose because the lighting circuit depleted the magnetic field of the rotor when in use, so if the srx regulator presented a short circuit to the generator coil then it is possible that the rotor magnetic field could be affected....just a theory

Ran my SRX 400 with just a capasitor before I got a new battery and it worked fine. I know that it delivers 12 volts after it gets a charge but has no power of it's own. Just a thought if a battery is a problem to get.
