XBR Exhausts.....again.
« on: May 19, 2009, 11:22:59 AM »
I know it's been covered plenty before and there's a petition for whoever to start making them again, however.... has anyone ever tried fitting the down pipes off another model?

I thought CB500 pipes might fit with a bit of bending, but they use 42mm gaskets not 40mm like the XBR so I guess they'll be way out....?

I looked at the CB250RS (you can pick up full 2-1 systems dirt cheap), but they'll probably be too restrictive?

Or even CB400 twins....?

has anyone tried anything that fit with a bit of heat and a hammer, regardless of how pretty it looked?

Originally I ran the stock downpipes with a couple of bits of 6" long pipe on the ends, that was a bit loud for the scrutineers  ;D I tested the stock downpipes with some aftermarket 'Triton' style silencers which worked well but didn't have the top end power of the HRC pipe. I'm looking to get some pipes made up that are the same outside dimensions as the stock downpipes, I think that will work quite well. The HRC pipe tucks under the engine and I don't think I can fit a catch tray under it as it stands.

Dyno chart of 'road spec' exhausts:

The Micron exhaust works very well even with an HRC cam. For road use (not that relevant here) its way faster in probably 95% of circumstances and pulls like a train in the midrange.

HRC pipe with Supertrap end added to meet lower noise regs, 21 discs for race, 9 for road (still stupidly loud!):

I've got what is supposed to be a GB500 down pipe, but it's been welded and braised by a previous owner and it's started to fall to bits.... I've seen the diagram for the HRC pipe, but I don't have the skills, or the money to pay someone with the skills to fabricate me one up.

If I can't find something else I might have to chop the pipes I've got just before the 2-1 join and find someone to well a nice bit of 41mm tube in.
