XBR centre stand removal
« on: August 19, 2008, 04:54:07 PM »
Blimey that was all a bit scarry. Not been around for a while so when I went to thumperclub.org I got a bit of a fright!!

Took a while to work out where it had gone!

Anyway to my question.

I have a spare XBR frame set which I am stripping down for powder coating and I can't seem to find a way of getting the centre stand off. Nothing in the Honda manual either.

I am sure somebody in this august body has done similar in the past?

How does it come off? Does it come off?

Andy

Dunno how they're supposed to come off but mine was a large lump of rust and a cheap angle grinder and a couple of cutting discs saw it removed in bits but without damaging the frame...

No idea how you'd remove it without wrecking it though, mine wasn't coming out any other way  :-\

There is a hollow tube running through the centre of the stand which hooks through two loops on the frame secured by a split pin. Nobody ever greases this tube, so I think you'll find it hard- remove the split pin, and see if you have any movement- soak it with WD40 for a bit, then try tapping the the tube out with a plastic hammer or such like. Once you have loosened it, you will need to drift it out with a similar sized bar. Good luck!
