Never seen the point in buying something like this - as soon as you take it out and ride it it's just another old bike. Of course if it's bought as an "investment".......

Not to me, or I suspect to most of us here. You could get 3 perfectly decent SR500s for that price. One to ride, one to polish and one to dismantle.......

I fully agree. I get the crated investment thing, but for me it just seems to be such a waste of a lovely machine with the potential to take its rider anywhere. Surely that is the point of a bike? Maybe for a museum as an exhibit to show how bikes were shipped, but even then I would want to get it out and ride it.

I once read an article in some classic magazine or other that made the point that when buying a classic bike the one to look at is the one with a little oil mist around as you can be fairly sure it is ridden. Ok there may be some flaws in this argument but I understood what was being said. This pristine, never run bike might be more trouble to get going than a slightly scruffy runner.

Yes, aged and hardened oil seals and so on, petrol pipes not E10 compliant, tyres neeeding replacement etc. Plus the fact it's been in a crate doesn't mean it hasn't been exposed to damp conditions.

Nah! Your better off with whisky!    At least if that goes out of fashion, you can drink it and drown your sorrows! 

Why do you think the aristocracy hord old wine, claret, port, champagne etc? 

I'm with Easy Ian, buy a good one and run it, no to the polishing and a maybe to the restoration job; but I would rather be riding the ruddy things.
