Rear Suspension Question

Hi guys,

Charging hard today on the old SZR, playing tag with a 600/900? Monster back from the Cat & Fiddle, at high speed (90ish) the bike kept bouncing me out of the saddle. I've got the front set up spot on but have I got too much pre-load or rebound on the back? - is it a case of playing with it (put it back to standard, never been changed since I bought it) or is there a starting point (too much rebound, back it off etc?)

Any help much appreciated.

Have you checked if the damper is shot?

The rear shock has adjustable damping, on mine the adjuster would turn on its own and go to the heaviest damping setting and kick me out of the seat. Might be worth checking. I ended up putting a jubiliee clip round it and cable tying the adjuster to stop it rotating.

Thanks mate, closer inspection revealed exactly that, the knurled ring that adjusts the rebound is sloppy and I reckon that's whats happened. I've wound it back to 8 clicks from Max, which makes it just a bit harder than standard and I'll see what happens next time out but I think I'll also need to find a way to prevent it "self-adjusting". How come the things that should be self-adjusting, like cam-chains don't, and those that shouldn't, like this, do?
