Glad to hear you’re enjoying the Guerilla Martin. Big bro has just had the first service done on his. (Last Friday)
He too is looking for a slip on end can, he’s narrowed it down to two. A Zard or an Ixil. Both of which he is finding extremely hard to get hold of. No one seems to have either in stock.
Cheers
, Michael

Well I've now covered over 100 miles and things seem to be settling down or bedding in nicely.

I'm going to slowly increase the maximum speed gradually up to 50 mph prior to the first service but shall continues to vary the load on the engine and make much use of the gears.

I've fitted a rear hugger extension to help keep the plot clean, otherwise there's not much else to do except to ride it when I can. The weather's now back to normal following the near   drought conditions for most of the spring so I'll only be going out when it looks to be dry. The last 2 rides were under cloudy skies. I know bikes should be ridden but I like to avoid wet roads whenever i can but I do have the luxury of 2 other bikes I can use regardless.

I'll probably get an after market air filter soon and maybe change the exhaust at some point but it's quite nice as it is for the time being and is safer as far as the numbers of horse and rider using the quieter back roads which I'm currently mostly riding on.

I probably change the oil and filter after another 1000 miles from the first service  over the winter as bill suggests and see what additions or modifications come on to the market in the loger term.

Hi Ian, yes, the Meteor and the little Honda 125 have gone. After the last operation on my left hand I found the clutch on the Meteor to be too heavy for me, so I sold both to raise funds for the Rebel which has a very light slipper clutch. Originally I wanted a new Gb350, but the part ex values I was offered were totally insulting, so I went for a 2nd hand Rebel instead.

Yes. Excellent news Ian. Not even an advisory for that “fruity” zorst??
😉..... cheers, Michael

Believe it or not Michael the exhaust never had a mention 😱.
I think I'll make it a bit louder now 🤣.
When I got home I noticed a bit of misting from the RH fork seal (fork stanchions were rechromed along with new Yamaha seals/dust covers). On dismantling I found out that I had omitted the steel spacer that goes between the fork top bush and the oil seal. 🤭.
All sorted now with no fork leak. Phewww.
Just waiting for the registration  now. 🤞

Hi Pete

Annoying isn't it to pay a value added tax on a part that already has been through the bought and paid for (and therefore taxed) cycle on who knows how many occasions. Maybe robbery would be a better way of describing it.

I see you have no Meteor listed on your info anymore, has it gone?

Chatter / VAT on second hand parts

I just got caught out ordering a second hand fuel tank from Germany. It never occurred to me that the tank would be liable to VAT on entry to this country, being second hand, but apparently this is so, and of course if you want to see your part, you have no option but to pay up. My own fault I know for not checking beforehand, but I have to say the whole experience felt unpleasantly like blackmail. Be warned!

A very detailed article indeed.

I've always wanted one since the 70's when I used to read Bike magazine and a contributor ran a 450 and then of course the first model V twins appeared.

I lusted after a Darmah in particular as they had supposedly better Jap switchgear and clocks IIRC.

I road tested a later 750 (SS I think) in the early noughties but settled for a Guzzi V11 sport which had a much less radical riding position.

Eventually I bought a 1996 750 Monster in 2020 but although a lovely bike when it was running well caused me to spend a fortune trying to resolve running issues which I did eventually but had by then run out of confidence in that particular bike. It was beautifully balanced, with very light weight for a 750 and cornered as if it was on rails. A lovely torquey motor with just the right amount of power for my needs.
