In doors for less than 24 hours and I have already started work. I have shortened the rear mudguard and moved it forward by 4.5cm and repositioned the indicators, thinking of sinking the rear light into the cowl so it is flush and repositioning battery to underneath the swinging arm :)

Surely the trophies should be in the background of that shot!?
-
Matt, the bikes indoors. As. IN THE HOUSE....What more does a man need. 😁🤣🤘
-
No Trophies this year but went to some great bike meets, Still not cold enough to turn on the workshop central heating, but I can hear the kettle boiling so I had better finish this post :)
-
I thought I would strip the paint off the oil tank, it should look nice polished
-
I look forward to seeing the effect on the bike as a whole 8) :P
-
I have a new battery for the bike, very small
-
Wow! That little battery can crank your special?!
-
That's a very good question Matt, please Joolz more details. That thing certainly is tiny, I've got a li on battery for mine but defo not that small. I assume you're still running an electric starter on your bike? Or is it now kick only? .. cheers, Michael
-
The only way to crank my bike over involves my leg :) The battery is a 0.8 Ah lead acid gel, its only there to provide power at idle to stop the lights dimming
-
Aahhh... yes that explains it. It's very similar to the one I had on the now demised 😢😢 cafe racer as that too was kick only. Still a very neat little unit tho Joolz 👍... cheers, Michael
-
Ok, thanks. I thought yours was a high compression engine? Still kickable though? Any idea how small the battery can go to retain the electric start on a standard XBR?
-
If you bear with me Matt I'll tell you once I get home and measure mine 😁😁👍
-
Afternoon Matt, having just landed home I've measured the shorai lithium ion battery I've bought for the tracker, which still has an electric boot. The sizes are: length 145mm, width 86mm height 86mm
Not the cheapest thing I've ever purchased but very light in weight and can be placed in any position.
Hope this helps. You just know you NEED one on that special of yours 👍🤘😉... cheers, Michael
-
Thanks, Michael. I'll add it to the wish list, but keep the cardboard on ice until I've finished whittling everything else down, starting with the loom - the rear brake light sensor is going and it's place being taken by the starter solenoid. I need the reg/rect connector moved back a bit as I think it's resonating against the CB200's much narrower tunnel. I wouldn't mind copying the speedo setup from that SR400 bobber you put up, ie, mounted on the side of the fork.
Lots of ideas bobbing ::) around in my head, but no cohesive picture of what I want to end up with... hmmm, newbies, eh?!
-
Just for future reference, have you got the Amp Hours and Cold Cranking Amp values for that battery? Cheers. Also, did you have to buy a lithium compatible reg/rect?
-
I have made some new side panels, do you like the decals, I thought it was a good play on the original XBR500 ones :)
-
Yeah nice touch 👍
-
Sweet! Any chance of a full profile pic? 8) Are they steel or ali? What guage? I do like the XB600R name change ;D
-
Here is a pic minus the tank (Suzanne does have some limits on what I can bring indoors. Wood fires and half tanks of petrol are a bit dodgy.) The side panels are made from perspex sheet 3mm thick, its a bit of a pain to work with as it shatters easily, but my old side panels lasted 3-4 years so it lasts ok on the bike. The XB600R stands for eXperemental Blown Racer :)
-
Yeah I like the X perimental B lown R acrer bit Joolz... 😉
-
Tell that Suzanne to stop teasing us and allow a shot with the tank on - when the fire's not lit...pretty please ???!!! ;D
-
Here is a pic from the summer, I hope it satisfies your craving to see the tank on, not much difference now except the shorter back end and longer side panels
-
Great, thanks Joolz! What will be keeping you busy in 2020, then?
-
Im a bit stuck there, I have a few of the long titanium engine bolts to get and some alloy banjo bolts and brake bleeders, but after that I really cant see anything more I can do with the bike. I imagine that project will be at the end and I cant afford another bike to start a new project
-
Sounds like the fettling withdrawal symptoms will be upon you :( Nurse! ;D

There's only one answer Joolz - you'll have to sell the bike to me for £100 to raise money for your next project. :o 8) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Haha :) in your dreams :)

I have aleady had a few thoughts, alloy bottom yoke, alloy swinging arm and titanium swinging arm bolts and wheel spindles. Now all I have to do is find out what bike has a suitable yoke and swinging arm that will fit !
-
That should keep you busy - I'd be interested to hear the results 8)

Well as it happens chaps I may possibly be able to be if some assistance. I'm in discussion with the bloke who's made my yokes to see how much he will do some cnc yokes to suit the standard XBR forks and ignition barrel etc.... if I got ten pairs made the cost would come down but I then have to be able to sell ten pairs on to at least make my outlay back. I'll keep you posted on developments... cheers, Michael
-
I'm very interested! Best guess on price...? Ballpark?
-
Honestly not sure yet Matt, I initially asked him if he would be interested in making some solid copy top yokes to suit the XBR. I'd figured that there seems to be a few folk (like your good self I believe ?) who wanted to bolt risers and renthal style bars on but probably not that advisable with the standard relieved cast yoke. So with a cnc solid copy drill and bolt on a set of risers no problem, I then started thinking why not go the whole 9 yards and get a full set made up. At this moment in time I've left it with him to ponder wether he's up for the job/work and to come up with a costing to produce 10 items including top and bottom yokes complete with new stem. Approximately what kind of money would you want to be paying for a complete set of cnc ally yokes. This would give me an idea as to wether or not to go ahead with getting ten made if I thought I would at least make my money back and not be seriously out if pocket. Cheers, Michael
-
Yikes! I just looked at prices online for a full set. I'd never get it passed for payment by swimbo accounting ltd!!!
A top slab maybe and yes, my bike came with risers bolted through the top - no issues to report thus far, touch bonce.... ;D
Oh, look - we've hijacked Joolz's thread - apologies!
-
Yes sorry Joolz... if/when I have anything to report on XBR cnc'd yokes I'll post it under a different title. Cheers, Michael
-
No problem, I have been following your post on cnc machined yokes, nice idea but would put me well over my monthly £40 budget :(
-
Just sent my fork sliders off for rechroming, £150 the pair, no pitting or anything like that, I have just worn the chrome through age. It scraped through the last MOT but I was advised they probably wont pass again. 2-3 weeks before they come back to me, have new seals and dust caps waiting to go on. I wont be able to do any more jobs on it this winter as it has skinted me, but it will be ready to ride again come spring :)
-
Covid19 test ride with all the latest mods, Turn up the volume, the new exhaust sounds great. Its a pity this might be all for this year
-
Looking and sounding good Joolz, as you say pity it might be the only run you get this year, fingers crossed we can all get back in the saddle pretty soon ... cheers, Michael
-
Thanks for the video. Always good to see a bike in motion. I agree about the exhaust note - luverly. Does the supercharger add anything here, or just contribute the whine?
-
Brilliant, love it!
-
Pleased you all like it :) The supercharger adds a hell of a lot to the exhaust noise, thats why its been so difficult to get it under control, if you restrict the noise then you restrict the breathing, I had to find a way of keeping the exhaust free flowing while keeping the Db down, it cant really be done, but the ear is not so sensitive to lower tones so I just concentrated on removing all the trebble and mid range. I think I have gone through 3 or 4 silencers trying to find something acceptable, Im not so keen on the modern style but it sounds perfect
-
Sounds great. Pleased all your effort has come to fruition. Safe riding. 8)
