Is it possible to have gearbox cases, specifically the engine mounts, welded? Obviously it probably won't be as strong as the original casting but will it be up to the task?
Any thoughts or names of possible repairers in the Derby area most appreciated.
Cheers

Yes they can be welded, usually TIG but can be done with gas as well. Not in the Derby area so can't help with a name, but look in the Y.Pages and ask a few welders.

Some cases take to welding better than others - needs tested. Some of the best results I have seen have been using those DIY sticks - which for the life of me I cannot remember - seemed to weld everything from aluminium cans to mazak.

Er... Boyd, why do you ask? Has someone been a tad physical on disassembling a motorcycle? ;)

Nope he is making a Norvin (or Vinton as I saw on an Aussie site the other day) and had cut the rear engine mounts off to get it in the wideline and decided to cut the wideline instead and now needs to weld the Vin lump back together before the men in black find out. He is doing it to go with the chopped SS100 he is working on.
