I was up at Kinlochleven in the highlands to do the Moidart Peninsula Run, on my 50cc Negrini, job done, 125 miles with no problems. Then next day I went to watch the Pre 65 two day trial, lots of nice thumpers but thought you might like this one in particular....

That Ducati is lovely, just a shame he left his wallet on the frame instead of a seat! Seriously they are very nice bikes. I think the Velo has the right idea by the look of that front end, make it useable and get it out there doing miles.

The Duke looks the part, but that dinner plate to get some semblance of trials gearing would be it's Achilles heel and they don't like to plonk. Blasts through bogs and up gravelly slopes, but rock hopping I'd have thought not! ;)
The Goldie would crack on and the Velo certainly looks well thought out and used. I have attached an image of my friends Velo, that is a MAC taken out to 400cc, with a Mini 1380 piston, left hand change, front disc brake, etc etc all done at home on his mill and Myford Super7. Never ceases to amaze me and Velo's interchangability of parts helps!

Not too much of a surprise but the Ducati failed to finish .... Mick Grant was the oldest finisher.

That's a narrowcase frame on that bike. What size was the engine? The foreman mechanic, at Coburn & Hughes in Luton, the last large UK concessionaires for the singles, used to trials a heavily modified Monza 160, with some success back in the '70's.

I hardly ever see a bike that I think I could own and ride just as the previous owner has it set up, but in the case of your mate's Velo I certainly could (I'm ignoring the wavy front disc). That has to be one of the nicest bikes I have ever laid eyes on and painted in Ford Ludlow green if I'm not mistaken which was of course Francis Beart's favourite colour.
Thanks for posting that Bill, it has inspired me to try harder with my own quest for the perfect thumper.

it was a 250, rider was spanish so maybe a Mototrans

Yes, stunning looking machine that Bill. Apart from the wavy disc 🤷???. Certainly NOT a complaint though. Thanks for posting and sharing that one👍👍
