I've just had a chat with Timbo and Steve D. Is there any interest in an annual Rally this year, maybe 1st weekend in September to avoid school hols. Thinking about somewhere in the Welsh Borders to make it easier if any of the Dutch lads want to come over.
Let me know if interested and if there's enough interest I'll come up with a plan.
-
Wahey count me in! I am away in Northumberland from 30th August to 2nd September but free for the first weekend in September.

-
:) YES!!!! If i only get half a chance, i will be there, no matter where in the UK you plan it. :)
-
That weekend and location would work for me. Count me in too!
-
Hi all, can't make that weekend as we are doing a classic car tour of Wales, but would like to pop in for a chat if we're in the area.
I was going to do the tour with Pat on a bike, but one member took pity on me and is loaning me a car. ::)
Dave.

Count me in :)

Would love to attend but unfortunately it's difficult getting away at the moment

Hi Tony, Tim's explained a bit about your situation, so I totally understand. I've been there myself and there's nothing nice or easy about it. All the best, Pete

I've managed to book us in at The Powis Arms, Lydbury North, Shropshire, SY7 8AU for the weekend of 3rd - 5th September. We will have exclusive use of the overflow camping field. There are 4 porta loo's on the overflow field, but obviously we will also have access to the main toilet and shower block as well. The cost is £7 per night payable to the pub. They also do breakfasts, evening meals and local Shropshire ales.
They do have some B & B accommodation available too, for anyone not keen on camping, but I've no idea about room availability for those dates, you'd have to check with them directly.
I've told them I'll confirm the number of people attending by the end of August, so please let me know if you intend coming. Obviously, one or two extra won't matter, but I need to give them a ball park figure. I'll get my thinking cap on, and plan a ride out for the Saturday!
If anybody would like to get there on the Thursday (I may do!) then I'm sure that would be OK as long as you give them a courtesy call 1st.

Hey Pete that is marvellous count me in. I might not actually camp but I will be there from Friday. Thanks for doing this.

Postcode for the pub is SY7 8AU Pete. Will make it over if I can.
Cheers

Great, be good to see you Steve. Thanks for pointing out my deliberate error too, I wondered who'd spot it first 🤣

No problem Ian - it'll be great to see you. As I say, if you don't fancy camping then there is accommodation at the pub, or failing that there are several B & B's in Bishops Castle a few miles away.
-
Cheers Pete. I looked at the pub, but at 'from' £80 per night it is too rich for my pocket. I will find an available, good old Travelodge as it will be my cheapest option. Hoping to be on site Friday for a catch-up and a cuppa, then back on Saturday for a ride-out if one is planned or just another catch-up and another cuppa.

There's a B & B in Bishops Castle called 'past times' I think, which was very reasonable last time we stayed there about ten years ago. Worth checking out, may be completely different now of course...
-
My mistake, its called 'Old Times' http://www.oldtime.co.uk/bandb.htm (http://www.oldtime.co.uk/bandb.htm)

Well, we are in the area, so Pat & I can pop in Friday afternoon, may be in a 2CV van, stop for a chat and maybe food...are you eating in the pub? or is it DIY?...then we have a hotel booked in Montgomery for Friday evening.
We went to the Powis arms a few years ago, there was an Italian bike meet there, so of course we went on the Guzzi.
Dave.
-
Hope to be there. I guess it will be a last minute decision for me as always. This time it is not the timeframe, it suits me perfectly. Even had my mind on taking a small detour along Brighton this time, to visit the resting place of one of the all-time guitar gods, mr. Gary Moore. But the travel back to Holland is very problematic at this moment. Covid restrictions demand a negative pcr-test and quarantine after getting home. Quarantine is something i cannot use unfortunately. Let's keep an eye on it, hoping things will loosen up on that subject before end of august. Shitty situation really.
-
Hi Harry, we had a similar issue last month, we were due to sail to Europoort for our annual Moto Guzzi Quota treffen, this year in the Ardennes, but we were not allowed to enter The Netherlands or Belgium, so we had to cancel...and went to Wales instead...but we can still use the ferry until Christmas 2022.
I suppose it was a blessing in disguise, due to the rainfall and flooding in Belgium and Germany, just glad we didn't get caught up in it.
Dave.
-
Be good to see you all if you can make it, though I quite understand about the Covid situation Harry. I'm sure most of us will be eating in the Pub on the Friday night Dave...
-
I was looking forward to this one, but sadly i have an RAF reunion the same weekend, now i'm not one for these reunions... too many old duffers in blazers telling each other how good they were ..... but this is the last one for our entry system ( boy entrants who joined up at 16, between the years of 1948 & 1968 , on a sort of apprenticeship for 2 years then entering 'mans' service at 18.) so, there won't be many going, and as it's the last one i feel i should make an appearance ... god knows where my blazer & flannels are! ....
hope you all have a great time, and i look forward to hearing all about the usual misdeeds and derring do ....
-
Sorry you can't make it Steve, hope you have a good reunion - we can't compete with the RAF! 😊
-
Not long now...Pat & I hope to get there early Friday afternoon, will anybody else be there?...and, what time are you meeting?
I've been persuaded that the 2CV van is not ideal, so my friend is lending me his Lotus Elan+2 instead...very posh, I went for a test drive yesterday and it runs well, but the gearbox is a bit iffy, but can't complain.
See you soon.
Dave.
-
I'm probably going to get there Thursday afternoon Dave, and maybe one or two others will too. I'm expecting most people to arrive Friday
afternoon/evening so there's bound to be some of us around when you arrive. Lotus Elan sounds great 👍
-
Hi Pete
I am aiming to be there lunchtime on Friday or thereabouts, maybe a little earlier if I have a good journey. I am staying in a Travelodge not too far away as it was the cheapest option.
Have you got a run out planned for Saturday? I'm not sure if I will go as the Mighty Midget likes to bimble along at 45mph ish and last time I went on a Thumper Club run some members seemed a bit impatient with my relaxed approach to making progress.

Dear Spartacus,
They'll be the ones extracting their heads and machinery from between the radiator grills, pelaton groups, broken down mobile cranes, etc, just around the next corner!
Out yesterday and afore the carb fell apart (see other post), came around a corner, only to find a very large Ainscough mobile crane tucked in at the side of the road, with the driver, on his own, controlling traffic as best he could and an ever expanding pool of hot hydraulic oil appearing beneath the mobile crane! :o ::) ::) ::)
Fortunately, as we were not travelling quickly, we anchored up in time, but many of the 4 wheeled persuasion were having difficulty stopping! :(
There was also some very uneccessary abuse from some about "blocking the F...ing road!".
Also, you may not have seen this unfortunate incident just down the road from me. Driver inattention on a dual carriageway appears to have been the problem. The two occupants of the "ramming lorry" were fortunate not to loose their lives, unlike the horses in the box. Thankfully, the box driver and family were on the verge and avoided injury. All they could do was watch in horror as the whole ghastly carnage unfolded in front of them.

Go canny, enjoy the rally and scenery and I'd like to blether on here afterwards.

Hi Ian, yes, me and Timbo have planned a run out for Saturday. Don't worry - it'll be a typical TC ride out. When we did a trial run yesterday, I don't think we exceeded 50mph anywhere. Mostly twisty B roads and country lanes with great scenery.
Look forward to seeing you!
-
Hi gents
Thank you both for the encouragement and glad to hear that the rideout will be a back lanes affair Pete.
Crikey Bill that was a lucky escape by the sound of things. Good job your brakes were up to the task in hand, let's be honest I bet we can all think of bikes which would have struggled to stop in short order (Enfield Bullet 350 with drum brake in the wet!). Glad it ended well for you.
See you on Friday.

Aye Spartacus, shingles prevents any chance of my rallying, but 'local' jaunts are still on the cards!
Enjoy the canter that pete and timbo have planned. :)

Hope the shingles clearest up soon Bill - I can remember my Mom having it and it wasn't pleasant...

Thank you Crazy Frog, 5 x 800Mg 'horse tablets' of anti-viral for 7 days and see how you are. I think I am lucky that I haven't developed the optic nerve option and don't have a large 'belt' of blisters where my trouser band sits. However, the internal pain, though someone is stabbing you with a blunt knife or kneeing you in the ribs, on the opposite side of the torso from the itchy rash is perplexing.
Thank goodness for motorcycling for some relief and exercise.
Good health, Bill

I hate to say it but my Mom developed neuralgia as a result of shingles. Being riddled with arthritis, she was normally very stoical, but even she had a bit of a moan about the neuralgia, so I know it must have been bad...
-
Fingers crossed the tablets work for you, Bill. Sounds effing 'orrible, that does!??
-
Thank you both. At present I still have tablets to take and less than 2 weeks since it started, with the blisters starting to reduce. It will take time and I will see how it goes.
Up here if you are 70+ the shingles vaccine is on offer to anybody, make an appointment with a practise nurse and get jagged, as is the pneumonia jag. Go for it! I was too young for the former, but have the latter.
Regards, Bill

Alas, regulations according to returning to Holland still haven't changed a bit (didn't expect them though, but hoped...), so, unless a miracle happens, i am not going to make it this year. Sad to have to let this one pass. >:(
Anyway, have a great weekend to all of you! Hopefully better times will be there next year!

Sorry to hear that Harry it would have been nice to have an international representative. As you say there's always next year.

Hope you all have a good weekend and the weather is kind to you on the rideout (and of course the ale is in good order! :) )

Thanks Tony - we'll be too close to Wales to guarantee the weather! I'm going over today to check the beer is OK for general consumption. The things I do for other people ::)
-
Sadly not going to be able to make it over. Ferries just working out too expensive to make it practical for a short visit at the moment.
-
Pete your dedication to the comfort and enjoyment of Thumperteers is humbling. Though as a strict tee-totaller your efforts are lost on me sadly.
Sorry to hear the Irish contingent, other than Timbo of course, won't be with us, I guess we will have to do what we can to uphold the craic tradition.
I'm excited now and looking forward to meeting up with some proper motorcyclists on some proper motorcycles for some proper motorcycle chat. This has nothing to do with my son-in-law selling his BMW R1200 to buy my daughter a new kitchen (that girl is too much like my ex-wife for my liking) or my mate considering selling his Honda CRF250 because he can't justify owning it (twat). Don't let me down fellas I need a good bike fix.

Right chums,
I'm on my way. Google is predicting my arrival as 7pm, so put that time aside in your evening to watch me struggling with my tent.

Hi All
Just got back from a fantastic couple of days away at the Annual Rally, absolutely brilliant. It was great to see so many thumperteers in one place and the chatter and story swapping was epic. Lovely roads around the Powis Arms too.
Thanks to Pete and Tim for getting us together and thanks also to everyone there for an absolutely great weekend.
Spartacus.

Yep, it was really great to catch up Ian, good weekend talking nonsense and putting the world to rights! 😊
Arn, sorry I missed you leaving us in Church Stretton, hope you got home OK and hope you'll have some good news shortly. 👍
-
I hope you had a great time at the Rally guys. Hats off to Crazy Frog for organising. I had a prior commitment in the diary so I couldnt make it this time. But I hope to see you all at the next gathering, having recently added a Royal Enfield to my stable of thumpers. Cheerz Cliff (BradXT)
