Title: Carol Nash Classic Mechanics Motorcycle Show October 9th & 10th 2021
Post by: Silverfox on July 05, 2021, 03:55:23 PM
Ok - I have made contact with Mortons regard a club stand and im confident we will get one -soooooooooo who's up for it????

Usual rules apply - free weekend pass including camping if you show a bike - ideally arrive Friday afternoon (Saturday morning pre 9:00 at the very latest) you cant take your bike off the stand until 16:30 (ish) on the Sunday.

Refreshments provided for both days on the stand - possibly have pub food on the Saturday night!!!

I have asked for the balcony stand which can accommodate approx 8 bikes???? we can squeeze more on but it might get a bit congested - 6-8 I think would be ideal.

Currently there's 1 bike that's mine!  Don't all rush at once............

Gareth

Yeah yeah yeah said the Beatles.....

I hope you'll put up with me for another weekend 🤔😁.
I'm sure I can find a bike or two somewhere in my garage that would be suitable. Would be lovely to see some "New Faces" ( no not Derek Hobson!!), But count me in please barring any sort of disaster.
Ian 👍

WOH.... steady on there tiger. You’ve GOT to show your bike, I didn’t manage to see it the other week. I did consider doing a covid test scheme that I’d dreamt up, then I thought the better of it and simply stayed at home and self isolated. 🤦???🤦???
Hence the reason I didn’t get, what was clearly the joy of seeing your bike Gareth. From memory the last time I saw it, it looked ok to me, so come on fill me in as to why it was such a talking point 🤷???
Cheers, Michael

A lot has happened since you last saw my bike- I have sold all my bikes apart from a Honda C90 which i will be restoring over the winter - I invested the money into an MG Midget! Never had a classic car before so thought we'd have a dabble - Liz loves it so its something we can both enjoy. I will however look to get another bike maybe next year, it will be something that i really want - so i just need time to decide what that might be!!

Ahhh.... I see, great choice of classic car I must say. Apart from a completely “roofless” original mini, complete with an Arden 8 port head (which I WILL build one day😉) the midget is the car I’d also choose, closely followed by a frog eyed sprite. Plus a C90 is DEFO cool as. If you’re ever thinking of parting with it please give me first shout on it Gareth 🤞😉.
Look forward to seeing the “thumpette “ in October.
Cheers, Michael

Yes please Gareth,
I would love to come in October but will only be a boring XBR (I mean it, it will probably be the one I still haven't finished building) but it might be the one I had last time.  I quite understand if you want something more interesting and will give way with grace (no idea who grace is though) if so.
I'd really like to build something interesting but very much doubt if I will have the time before October and I would definitely not be coming if I bought something more interesting before then!  I dread to think what "she who must be obeyed's" reaction would be if I came home with another bike.
Thanks again for all the organising Gareth.
Cheers,
Richard.

Yes indeedy you are Ian, I’ve got it built up to the point where it looks like a bike. Got the newly painted tank back the other week, a much better job this time round. Looks like I asked for it to look like. It’s not running and there’s no brakes (so I’ll defo need hand pushing it up and taking down the big ramp to the stand) I’ve not finished the exhaust yet but have again got it looking half decent for the show. Looking forward to the show and catching up with everyone..oh and obviously talking BOOCKS 😉👍...
cheers, Michael

gareth, if you are needing other bikes, i can fetch another in the van, one of the bsas or perhaps even my tuned 75mph honda step thru? it will fit in with the matchless spacewise so if you need it, let me know. how are you sending tickets out? do you want my address? im away to scotland this weekend for a week but will be back the following week, im planning to run down to stafford on friday morning if only so i can have the experience of not being on the last minute rushing up to beat the closing doors on friday evening for a change!

and heres an uncharacteristic dilemma for me, im having to go out tomorrow and buy some polish for the matchless, ive never bought polish before, its quite a new sensation, i dont think ive ever taken an even remotely shiney bike to stafford before, and the matchess is certainly shinier than anything else ive loaded into my van for the show. ive even dug out the long sonce forgotten half tube of autosol and polished the front mudguard! i think i must be sick or something.....

and 1987 harris matchless g80 500cc thats believed to be the earliest harris matchless in the world, being the second one ever built (the first one went to the usa and has disappeared) it was delivered from harris to the commanding officer of the royal signals corps white helmets motorcycle display team, and has been partly restored and is undergoing further improvement work.

its a pretty muted duff duff sound tbh. remember these were a production bike so needed to get through the same c+u regs as any production bike, so proper lights, reflectors, silencer, all the stuff that you need to make a production run rather than a one off. so its a big stock exhaust made aparently by lafranconi??  and its more like the sound of a stock xbr than a thundering  classic brit single.

Hi Kev, depends on whom you are dealing with. The bigger traders normally accept cards/cash, but in July, cards were the order of the day. The smaller one man bands are usually cash only. I'm sure you will get a lot of the bits you will be looking for. Hope you are going to pop onto the Thumperclub stand and introduce yourself. There will be a warm welcome and a hot cup of coffee waiting for you
Cheers Ian 👍

Thank you Gareth and Graham from me too.
Especially as you supplied me with the full glamping experience! Sorry again that I was so involved with talking to my long lost friend, Fred, that I left you two to break camp and didn't help.
It was a very enjoyable weekend and you even organised the weather for a good ride home. Strangely I was riding for over 60 miles, from the A50, with another bike. He would pass me then a few miles later I'd pass him. The odd thing was that he was as thorough at observing speed limits as I am so we were never more than a few hundred yard apart. Eventually he pulled into a layby after Lincoln, so I stopped to find out where he was from. He was Max and had been at the show with the Bandit club and lives in Skegness! I will be contacting him.
All in all an odd but very enjoyable weekend.
Thank you as well, Gareth, for the lovely breakfasts and supply of food and Graham for the continuous supply of coffee and tea.
I will do more next show, I promise!
Anyone fancy the winter show? Camping in February! That would be fun for us softies who haven't done the Elephant!
Thanks also to Michael, Ian,John and Steve for the amazing banter and interesting bikes.
Cheers chaps
Richard

When everyone has had a chance to draw breath, any chance of a few pics? Pics of gravity-defying mudguards especially welcomed?😁

I'd just like to thank Ian, Michael, Steve, John, Richard and GC for a cracking weekend at Stafford - as always lots of visitors to the stand and a step closer to what appears to be normality. I will of course look to book for next year so keep the 1st/2nd weekend of October free. One of the highlights for me was the gravity defying mudguard - confused a lot of people and embarrassed some!!!!

If anyone has any interest in the other Shows then let me know - of course we can't do it without the loyal members who show their bikes, however we are always looking for new additions.

Take care all and look forward to catching up at the next show, wherever that may be!

Gareth

Yes thanks for popping the photos up Ian. I notice that the first one must have been taken before the “worlds first gravity defying mudguard “ made it’s appearance 🤣🤣😁

Dear All
Just had a notification from the covid app that I have had close contact on the 10th and need to get a PCR test. Did anyone else get a notification?

Morning Richard. No I’ve not been “pinged” not yet at least. Hopefully your test comes back negative. I assume you’ve had both your jabs

Thank you, just been for test.
I guess it wasn't on the stand then. My worry is that it might be my long lost friend Fred who I suspect may be vulnerable. Fingers crossed it isn't.
Cheers
Richard.

Thanks Gareth.

Ah but Richard, surely by then you’ll be riding something with two pots to many. A trident 😉🤞

Yes Gareth I’ll defo be up for the April one, so long as my darling wife doesn’t whisk me away as a surprise for my which is April 19th😉.
Hopefully have the tracker moved on a touch more too, exhaust finished and tidied up. Oh and the “worlds first gravity defying mudguard “ might have brackets by then. Unless I can figure out a way to actually make “the worlds first gravity defying mudguard” 🤣🤣🤦???.
Then come the October show I might have the XBR engined rs250 on it’s way.
Cheers, Michael

One thing I can certainly say, Michael, is that I will always have at least one XBR on the road. The only downside if I get the trident is I will have to do that before I do my poor copy of your tracker.
Cheers,
Richard.

I would like to be considered for either or both shows Gareth. You never know I may even have a different thumper by then for one of the shows.

Thanks Michael. Yes, I've emailed Fred but not had a reply yet. It did sound like he keeps himself insanely busy though, and he is quite a bit older than me.
Cheers

Good news Gareth, hopefully count me in. Especially as we might be able to rub shoulders with someone famous on the stand.  We’ll be able to say, “yeah we knew him BEFORE he became famous” 😁😉
Cheers, Michael
