Ah yes but trust me that headlight will be attached to an extremely well turned out  bike once Ian has worked his magic 👍🤘

My guess Matt is that’s it’s a Yam srx600
Come on Ian, spill the beans 😉👍

Nearly correct Michael. It's a 1991 400 SRX Monoshock. I will add more pics. Colour may be a little controversial tho 🙄

Yes indeedy Ian. Looking nice and shiny already, then again I wouldn’t have expected anything less knowing the standard you turn your bikes out at. Looking forward to seeing it down at Stafford. 🤞🤞
Cheers, Michael

Aye Ian, that'll look rather swish. looks like the gold paint applied to the magnesium parts of the G50 and the "Boy racer"!

Personaly, I'd have given the frame the same black as well!  :-X  Let's see when it is all resplendent in one piece.

Good health, Bill

Good morning Bill, thank you for your kind comments. I did say colour may be a bit controversial 😉.
Although the photos don't show, the black is pearl  with a gold fleck (with "Nissan gold" stripes). I kept the swing arm "Yamaha Silver" or as near as I could but my wife said I should have had it the same colour as the frame. Ah well it's done now....🙄
Title: Re: Lockdown resto.
Post by: themoudie on March 12, 2021, 10:32:50 AM
Aye Ian,

Don't give a toss, the pearl black certainly looks good and the darker gold rather than 'brass' adds to the combo. But it's your bike! As I've said to others "Sky blue pink, with yellow elephants and orange palm trees is fine by me!"  ;)  OH! My mono swingarm is bare clear anodised alloy and just gets a wipe over with a bit of wax after a scoosh.  ;)

I'm off to play with an AMAL MKII' jetting and multi-coloured spaghetti with a black corroded copper centre!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(  Sodding 1980's Italian electrics!

Good health, Bill

PS Managed to get a pair of Bridgestone S22 radial tyres (fitted and balanced) for less than the cost of a pair of some crossplies. I'm pleased with that "bargain".
As Mr Tesco says "every little helps"! 😉

Ian... as usual your finish looks brilliant. Can’t wait to see it on the stand at the Stafford show 🤞🤞
Cheers, Michael
Ps.. who does your painting? I still need my tracker tank re doing at some point

Thanks Michael. Def hope Stafford goes ahead. It's been far too long.
Painter lives in Wednesfield near Wolverhampton. I had to wait 2 months this time as he said he was so busy. Let me know when you want your tank doing and we can sort it out between us. 👍

Thank you Matt and Pete. It has been hard work to get some bits.... Hopefully nearly all obtained now. Waiting on the seat to be recovered. Engine to be cleaned, painted & fitted. Carbs need rebuilding. Good job they put the show back otherwise I'd be struggling to finish it. Haven't heard if we have got a stand as yet...🙄

Black barrel, silver cases Ian... why? because it’s a classic combo, simple as that. Oh it’ll look the bees knees (IMVHO)
Name withheld to protect the innocent 😇😉

Block and inner cases now painted & engine back in the frame.  Outer cases, still to be decided upon. Possibly polished, or even painted, who knows where I will go with this. 😁👍

Looking a pukka job Ian.

I'm still wrestling with Ducati cams etc, Morini transducers and chainsaw carburettors!

However, the SRX Mono and the Boy Bros have been out 'shopping' quite a bit lately.   ;)

Thanks guys. Only downside is as the show was spread over 2 days and there were 2 competitions,  the trophies got mixed up and I ended up with the wrong one. Hopefully get it sorted soon 🤞

Sorry, Bill, should read, "Solomon" 😄

I wonder what the old Sage would have said about "scantily clad PR girls"?  ;)  Let alone trying to quaff his namesake of champers! With 700 wives and 300 concubines, I am not sure if he had much time for quaffing or judging motorcycles!  ;D

Thanks JOOLZ, it is getting quite a bit of use during the good weather, 1000 miles just coming up. Had a couple of minor adjustments to do but nothing serious. I'm pretty happy with it.

Many thanks for your lovely comments Steve. In a bit of a twist, I was going out on the SRX today for a run out to Dinky's Dinah on the Welshpool Road out of Shrewsbury. I opened the fuel cap to check how much (E5) fuel was in said tank. "Not enough methinks". I jog off to garage...tried to open (new) Fuel Cap... Ha ha...locking mechanism decides to shear off...back off home with tail between my legs.. now have to decide how to remove locking filler cap (aircraft type) without too much damage 🤔
 any suggestions????.

Hi Ian, i had a similar problem with the mono tank on the rolling chassis i sold a couple of months ago, lost key so couldn't open it.
I removed all the allen bolts (6?) , then i could lift the whole filler assy a bit at the front, enough to get a screwdriver in (covered in a bit of leather to protect the paintwork etc), and managed to pry it up and out without damaging the latch assy (you need to be a bit 'firm' with it). then took the whole thing to my local locksmith who , within the hour had provided me with 2 keys for the princely sum of £15.
