Title: Bar ends
Post by: oldboy1952 on November 17, 2020, 03:04:13 PM
Now here's a stupid question, anybody know the approx combined weight of the bar end and weight up in the handle bar of GB/XBR 500.
The GB I've just bought has neither fitted, so I'm assuming it's going to buzz a bit. Thinking of rolled lead as a temp fix.

Evening old boy. Oh and welcome to the club. I have a spare pair of XBR bars in my “stock” I’ll get the scales out at the weekend and weigh them for you if you like?
Cheers...Michael

Woh.. steady on there, your dealing with a city & guilds qualified plumber here. One that can and still does the odd bit of lead burning (lead welding to the uninitiated). Any talk of nicking the lead of the church roof may just send me into a panic attack 🤣🤣🤣

There’s always York minster, quarter inch roll capped cast lead up there.... work of art. Truly brilliant stuff.
I’ll hopefully get time to have a look at the bars over the weekend for you 👍
Cheers, Michael

Yes I did a couple of aprons a few months back, hadn’t done any for a couple of years so was nice to get my hand back in. Used to do quite a bit about 25/30 years ago but just seem to drift away from it for some reason.

Back to the main subject of this thread. BARS.. I’ve weighed a bar old boy, it was a completely clear bar, no grip or anything attached to it. However I don’t seem to have the bar end weight, it did have the metal threaded plug insert in the bar that the weight bolts to. The bar weighs it at 9oz... hopefully this helps you out in some way 🤞
Cheers, Michael

Just spotted this thread today. There's a slight difference in the bar weights and i'm not sure if they are right or left but one is 165g and the other is 175g. As for the individual handlebars they both weigh approx 444g including the internal end weight retainers which from memory are probably about 100g each.

Hope this is useful

Regards

Tony

Many Thanks to everybody for their help. Recovering in hospital at the moment after being chased by the police and falling off the church roof, (breaking a leg) I'll go down the plumbers merchant and buy some lead and give it a go!   :)  :) :)
