Title: Terrot oil
Post by: spooky on January 24, 2020, 01:55:12 PM
My 1951 Terrot would be grateful for an oil change.. A French manual just says Castrol  XL for the engine, what grade do you think I should use ?  A straight mono or standard multigrade 20/50 ?    It's a 1951 four stroke by the way

Aye Rufus, give Castrol a call and ask them if the Terrot is on there list of motors. Personally, I would feed the wee beastie SAE40.

N.B. on the Castrol XL SAE20/50 data sheet there is the following sentence:

"Motor Cycles: All year use in 4-stroke engines excluding those with a wet clutch."

Good health, Bill

I'd use a good 20W/50 as I've never been convinced by the monograde only arguments. As long as it's changed regularly it should be fine.

I had the good fortune to see the Terrot when I visited Rufus a couple of weeks ago. Bloody gorgeous bike.
