This winter I am making small improvments and correcting any jobs I have rushed in the past, these include replacing all the nuts and bolts of the fairing mounting hardware, with titanium items, titanium bolts and slide pins for the front brake caliper, and a fairing mounted dash. I have new switchgear fitted in chrome, they are a bit smaller than the originals so I can play around with the spacing of the leavers. A new front and rear light are going in and a belly pan is going to be fitted

They look like Daytona gauges Joolz??.... looking good. Cheers, Michael
-
Looking good. Keep up the good work 👍

The rev counter is daytona, the speedo is just a cheap generic job, and the boost and the air fuel ratio gauges are aftermarket items

Here is the latest progress

Nice one, Joolz! That's what I call an instrument cluster! How's the "cheap generic" Speedo working out - smooth, sufficiently accurate? Keeping warm as usual, I see :'(
-
The generic speedo seems pretty good and tallies to the car speedo well (mrs followed me home one day) the cluster does look good, although Im having a real problem with all the wires in the headlamp shell and havent even bothered connecting up the new switch gear, its a bit of a wiring nightmare and Im not good with jap electrics far too complicated. Oh yes its lovely and warm in my "workshop" :)
-
I had a lot of problems incorporating the handlebar controls into the standard loom so I started from scratch and made my own loom :)
-
All finished for this year :)
-
Very clean and tidy-looking loom 8) Are you running an aftermarket coil?
-
Yes I use one of those generic high output coils from ebay, not too expensive and seems to work ok
-
Anything us mere mortals with bog standard engines would benefit from, or not really worth it? Iridium plug is as far as I've gone, spark-wise.
-
I dont think the high output coil will benefit much, but its cheaper that a new coil from Honda :) Iridium plugs are a good idea though
-
Thanks, Joolz, I'll make a note.

First fire up of the year, lovely supercharger whine
-
Its the last report on this leg of the project. Added another bracket to the dash as it had a habit of vibrating, the fuel air ratio meter was the best item I have bought, I did a final jet change on the idle jet and the needle jet, down 1 size, and reprofiled the needle, which have improved the tick over and low throttle control and the fuel consumption is about standard, wind the throttle wide and the fuel consumption is horrendous sucking through a 740 main jet.
Not much more to say on this, It starts 3rd kick from cold, already done a couple of hundred miles, feels pretty much like a regular bike now no real fuss or bother other than keeping an eye on the fuel level (no reserve) and the good weather is finally here :)
-
A 740 main jet?! And here was me, concerned about the fuel economy on the 230 main jet Mikuni that Michael gave me!
Very pleased that your skills extend to weather forecasting and you've finished your supercharger tweaks accordingly. I no longer have to worry about you, slumming it in your front room.
How's the trophy cabinet build coming along? ;D 8) ::)
-
Haha :) Only 3 trophies so far, still enough room on the mantlepiece before I have to build a cabinet. Not sure how the Mikunu and Amal jets differ in sizing, standard jet for my 40mm is 340 but the 740 hole is just under 2mm. Will be back slumming in my front room again next winter, although Im at a loss on what to do next, maybe a bigger pulley to get the boost up to 15psi or a programmable ignition

Still doing the odd modification here and there, new grips modified for use with bar end mirrors and I have made a new seat 10cm lower and 2,5cm narrower that tucks me nicely behind the fairing
