Hi,
I rally must get some new brake pads fitted to my SRX 600 this year, can anyone recommend what type/ material I should be using.
It is still all original with the original discs and more than likely the original brake lines.

Good to see you are well and still giving the old SRX an airing.
I used to use sintered (HH) ones in Sally, but as I don't race her, I changed over to organic pads (GG). These may be don't have the bite of the sintered (HH) ones, but work well enough for me, warm up quicker in cooler conditions, have a bit of 'feel' and are less abrasive on the disc.
Not sure if you have the twin disc or single disc set-up, so shan't be specific with part numbers. ;)
I usually purchase either from WeeMoto or M&P, as I don't have a 'local' Yamaha dealer and others can be a bit labourious.

Thankyou for that, just what I needed to know. As the bike is all original I didn't want to use brake pads that would ruin the disks.
It is the twin disc version,

hiya, yes, slight variation to Bill's setup, I'm assuming you have twin discs at the front, I use one sintered and one organic on each side, it works really well for my srx's and have used this setup for years.

and another thing .... :-)
I have always fitted s/s braided pipes... the combination of braided pipes and good pads transforms the braking, which, lets be fair, wasn't too bad, I mean, twin 270mm discs on a 600cc single with about 50bhp ... but you get better feel & no sponginess or is that spongeyness ... or maybe sponge-I-ness ... well, whatever...

Aye Christine and Steve,
Sally has a large single front disc fitted from the later SRX400 and the 17" front wheel, rather than the twin disc OE one. Agree with Steve, get stainless braided hoses fitted and also stainless pistons when next servicing the brakes, they make a big difference to the 'feel' of the brakes and resist gumming up with muck and corrosion.
As for you having nuf with the speling Steve, say no more! ;)
Glad to see that you are in good fettle, but this East coast harr is doing us no good up here at present, a balmy 6°C today with drizzle! :( However, Sally is now repaired and ready for a canter, once I can get the leg working to start her!

Yes Bill, same here with a gammy right knee .... #6 was booked in for MOT yesterday 9am, so figured that I should look at it Tuesday afternoon, wheeled it out of the garage, checked there was fuel, turned tap to prime and with choke on gave her a healthy kick.... well I didn't, it was rather pathetic actually, having bu55ered up a ligament in my knee 2 months ago, it obviously hasn't repaired itself completely yet ( the glories of old age huh :( ), anyway, managed to turn her over after a fashion... but no joy.
So, thought I'd check everything else, 2 bulbs to replace in indicators, rear brake to bleed (bit spongy), put battery on charge, pump tyres to 30psi. all good to go, but tried a few more pathetic kicks, nuffing!, turned fuel tap to run, undid bleed screw at base of float bowl old fuel drained out, put in 5 ltrs of fresh go juice, turned to prime, still no bluddy signs of life!, Give #1 Son a call, asked him to call in on the way to work and kick the (now referred to as a pile of poo) into life (after all, it's 70% his bike anyway!!.
#1 Son as reliable as a chocolate wristwatch... forgot to pitch up at 8am, so called garage to cancel MOT.
Having thought about it overnight, I figured it must be a fuel problem, so I undid the drain screw again, and it dribbled for a second or two, then nothing.... didn't like the thought of having to strip the carbs out and clean them (as bike only covered 160 miles since #1 son completely overhauled them)... so, in time honoured fashion I tapped the float bowl with the handle of a screwdriver, and RESULT... lots of smelly stuff pouring out of drain hole. buttoned everything up, 3rd kick and were in business!, called garage, MOT at 4.30.... home by 5 with MOT cert and no advisories... :D.
Bill, I really hope you get fit and well for the the new biking 'season'....
and yes, this shmur or frizz ... and cold and damp is a real pain.... hoping for better things soon....
