At first I thought the oil was coming out at a sub rocker shaft seal, but it turns out it had travelled back and down from a pool around the uppermost 8mm bolt on the cylinder head cover. I tightened it a smidge but no result. Any help greatly appreciated.

If you don't have the inclination to strip and clean and put new gaskets about the place; or are feart to overtighten the bolt, try a smear/drop of this stuff! ;)
Captain_Tolleys_Crack_Cure_Sealant (http://www.captaintolley.com/)
I can hear the cackling now at the name ::) , but can vouch for its worth and in spite of earlier posts about scrutineering ::) this definitely deals with wee "weeps" and mists from gaskets etc, permanently, until the next strip down.
BUY IT DIRECTLY FROM THE MAN HIMSELF, FAR CHEAPER THAN FROST's! :-X And with a sale price for the large bottle at present. ;)
My regards, Bill

Thanks for the tip. I'll leave the bolt in-situ and clean the oil off before applying on top and around it's washer. Great name, as you say!😱
