I'm looking out for a suitable paint system to use on the box section frame of one of my MZs. I was going to use POR15 but Frosts have let me down and I can't get hold of any.
Any recommendations for a satin or gloss black paint system that is rust resistant, UV and fuel proof, and that can be applied at home ?
Being an MZ I'm likely to use the same stuff on my tank.
Under impressed by Frosts.

You could try this stuff :-

I have a tin at home, but not got round to using it yet. I think you can paint direct over clean rusty metal, like hammerite, but it would probably be better with primer.

Aye Richard,
Whilst Frost's maybe the distributors, they are not the only stockholder.
http://www.holden.co.uk/displayProductsByBrand.asp?brand=POR-15&brandCode=Z7 also stock POR15
http://www.rust.co.uk/ stock alternatives
Put "POR15" into Google and away you go.
Personaly, I would find a good professional 2 pack epoxy sprayer and discuss with them your requirements. Not the same dimensional changes as powder coating and in my experience a better finish that retains its finish, unlike powder coating which 'dulls' over time and if it is broken, then water and corrosion penetrate sideways beneath the plastic coat. Assurances are also given about surface preperation and undercoats when powder coating and due to the depth of the powder applied it disguises all sorts of horrors! Caveat emptor! ???
Hope this helps, Bill

Well I found, and ordered, the POR 15 system from Demon Tweeks in the end. Frosts as the importer were less than helpful. Demon Tweeks worked out cheaper too which was a bonus.
I looked at powder coating but have never liked it as it allows water penetration when scratched or from the ends and then keeps it nice and snug to the metal.
Now to find out whether the POR 15 topcoat is oil/petrol proof, a claim they make for the UV susceptible primer coat but that is absent from the blurb for the top coat.
Paint, an irritating necessity.

Paint, an irritating necessity.
Aye Richard,
The nickel plated frames of Rickman and Cheney to name but 2 are a delight and you can see any stress cracks on the frame etc as well that might be hidden by paint or powder. However, the frames need to be able to drain condensation and be brazed, as welds are porous and soon oxidise.
Another alternative would be to clean back the metal and then apply a clear lacquer, as on some of the 'Grunge' fashion bikes being "sculpted" :-X these days.
I also knew a racer who used an oily rag finish so as to "Save weight and see when bits were failing or going to drop off!" ;)
I hope the POR doesn't let you down.
My regards, Bill

And another company (Demon Tweeks) takes my money then nothing happens until I contact them and they admit they don;t actually have the POR 15 I wanted in stock, but its on back order.
FFS. At this rate I'll end up in the Rants section, and I am rapidly running out of time.

This maybe worth bearing in mind when making these sorts of purchases! ???
"Under the distance selling regulations, the goods must be delivered or the service carried out within the time period they have specified. If no time period is specified, then the statutory time limit is 30 days (unless you have agreed otherwise). If the supplier is unable to fulfil their obligations within 30 days, they must inform you before the end of the 30 day deadline. They may offer you an alternative date for delivery, but you are under no obligation to accept and are quite within your rights to ask for a full refund.
Traders must provide you with specific information in regard to their obligations and your rights before you confirm your order. This is called pre-contractual (or prior) information and is dealt with in the next section, along with information about invoking your cooling off rights, returns, refunds and replacements.

I hope this helps.
But I have to say, I find the practise irksome in the extreme! ???

Oh I'm quite aware of the above but I'm turning into a curmudgeonly old git.
The correspondence between me and a Parking company is getting quite lengthy as I tie them in knots.
As I wrote, its getting towards a rant.
I am now acquiring the different elements of the POR-15 system from two sources.
Bah, humbug.

Aye Richard,
May I wish you success, with your persistance?
