Title: Cheap tyres
Post by: timbo on June 09, 2016, 12:23:35 PM
Just received a tyre that I ordered from Oponeo online. £32 for a 3.50x19 Mitas for the back of the RE. That inc postage to NI, and it appears to have come from Germany, so I'm well impressed  :)

Yes, I've used them as well as pneus-online who do similar cheap deals.

One thing to look out for is the manufacturing date - I had some delivered for my car that were a couple of years old. It didn't matter as they'll need replacing before they're 7 years old anyway.

WRT Mitas, Central Wheel in Coleshill knock them out cheapbut not that cheap!

The 3.50 section Mitas are quite small looking - I had one on the back of my Matchless G80 and it looked very skinny.

I tried a local Mitas dealer before, but as soon as I said it was for a bike, he went all throughother, and said he couldn't supply one. I said that I'd be fitting it myself, but still no budge  :-\
Surely a Mitas agent can get hold of a Mitas product  :-\

Aye Tim,

I have used these people; Tyres_supplier (http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=1110&cart_id=30153137.1110.20996&Cookie=froogle&m_s=1&s_p=index) although their price doesn't match your supplier's, and found the service very quick and efficient. Not sure if I would buy Mitas tyres, but Heidenau are certainly worth a look, with good grip in the wet! Their race compound small tyres are used for C90 racing in the 'South' I believe!  ;D

My regards, Bill

Another tyre from Oponeo, Heidenou K60, 120/90 17 for back of Dommie. £53 plus £4 to NI. And there were even cheaper tyres available!

Or is it false economy? As I've just realised I got 13,000 kms from the last rear tyre, a Metzeler  :-\

Aye Steve,

You could try the crowd I posted a link to in this thread!  :-\  But, you will still end up paying a healthy premium for the carriage  ??? "For the Isle of Man and Isle of Wight please add £14.75 per tyre "  :o

My regards, Bill

Hi Bill,

Yeah, I also had a look on there but when I saw the £30 delivery I soon clicked off. After saying that, looking around £15 per tyre seems to be the norm?  :( I`m not in a rush, I`ll see what`s about.

Cheers, Steve.

Aye Steve,

A visit to 'Road & Track' methinks or the mannie in Ramsey, Paul Dedman, but I suspect the latter may only supply the Pirelli/Metzeler brand.

Regards, Bill

Aye john,

SM = "Skid Master"!  ;)  I was doing thousands of miles a year on them in the early '70's and fine for the performance of the Brit 'plodders', but anything with a bit of "zip" in it, with "yan a they on the rear" could be interesting.  ??? Vincent twin, Dommi, Gold Star or a Bonnie!  :o

I agree, very difficult to wear out.  ;)

My regards, Bill

Many moons ago,I had an SM on the rear of a  BSA B40.When it finally wore out,I had a terrible job getting it off.It had gone so hard and stiff that it refused to come off the rim.

i had a gs1000g suzuki outfit with a big old coachbuilt chair on it and an avon sm on the back, it was a hoot to ride, i could drift it sideways through a bend with the back wheel spinning and smoking in the dry. great fun! we went all across europe in it one year and when i sold the bike it still had loads of tread left on it. would have been a different matter had it been on the front though!

I had a 'Kingstone' (?) front tyre on an old Kawasaki Z200 that simply would not 'wear out', I replaced it because I thought I should......in the process of getting it off....it broke !.
