Title: Its Insurance time again
Post by: timbo on June 06, 2016, 08:51:37 PM
Peter James has done the business again. I've recently sold a couple of Hondas, so I now only have one bike not over twenty years old, the RE Bullet. This cost £80, which I reckon is pretty good. However, they insured another nine other bikes, all over twenty years old, for £160! That's about £18 each for a full year fully comp! Blooming great!
Being a member of a recognised club makes a huge difference. And also, I've to provide two photos of each bike.

Good result Timbo. I'm with FJ at the moment, and though I'm satisfied with their service, I do feel they are a little expensive, so will try PJ next time.

I've been using PJ for several years and found them both good value and helpful.

So for this year, I've got rid of a few bikes, and the seven bikes I have insured are over twenty years old. £142.81 fully comp, with breakdown, and legal cover. Peter James does it again  :)

Well, that's food fotpr thought. I've been with Carole Nash last 20 plus yrs (6 bikes, fully comp plus Euro insurance and breakdown), but they made such a mess of it last yr they sent me £50 to apologise! Was about £220.

This year they quoted an amazing £64, but of course when I phoned to accept they requoted me and it was £264, they had "forgotten to add ANY bikes" though they were all there printed out on my renewal. REALLY DONT WANT TO USE THEM!

Mine are all maybe no longer worth fully comp, especially since insurance v quick to write off and keep your bike, when you can repair it much cheaper. Plus, if you claim, they get it back.

IAM Surety (I have an IAM Pass) £260 third party, no breakdown or Euro cover.

MAG Bikesure (I'm MAG too) won't insure me for classic Multi-bike policy IF I WANT TO RIDE TO WORK - well, of course I do, though I know some folk don't.

What a shower!! I have had no claims in over 20 years, the bikes are in locked garage with extra door security and mostly Almax chains and ground anchors.

To be continued..... think PJ and FJ may not like me going to work or doing 6-7000 miles annually. Best to get separate policy for my  commuter NTV?

Good luck Brendan, and let us know how you get on. I believe my great price from PJ is also to do with being a member of a recognised club  ;)

Unfortunately, I'm tied in with FJ until I get my ongoing (a year so far!) insurance and compensation claims sorted out.

Who would have thought it could take so long to sort this out, even though I have a Police incident report which clearly states that the accident was caused by the other driver doing a 'U' turn right in front of me?

Keep us updated Crazy Frog - we all go by price u til we find out how well/badly they deal with claims and problems! Never claimed off Carole Nash in 22-odd years, tho did my own claim in that tine against the other bloke's insurer, long time ago now. Last 3 times my CX got knocked over, I got a cheque from the other party to repair it on the cheap. Best way!

Timbo is right on the money - Peter James a brilliant £130 fully comp for 4 garaged bikes, Euro breakdown cover, and unlimited miles BECAUSE I am in a club. Can ride to work too! Not yet counting chickens as I need to read the paperwork, but hopeful!

I had a renewal quote from Bennetts l for insuring my 250RS and my ER6F for £236, phoned Peter James and ended up paying £165, well pleased.

Am now with Peter James. Euro breakdown included. Unlimited mileage.  Initially the policy said I couldn't ride other folks bikes. I asked if I could pay extra to upgrade that, nice lady said yeah, no problem, won't charge you anything extra!!

As Timbo said, they want two photos of each bike for Agreed Value...but you can not bother, and be market value until or unless you get round to it.

Goodbye Carole Nash.
