On the way to work this morning my RS wouldn't play ball due to the wear in the gear change linkage.I don't think the parts are available from Mr. Honda any more.Any ideas what can be done to improve things a bit please?Been looking for another linkage but they all seem as bad if not worse than mine!

Aye xbally,
Stick "rose joints" into 'Google' or Ebay and take your pick. Keep all your rods and change the worn joints.
My regards, Bill

There`s this for a tenner or £14.20 inc postage? Don`t know if it`s any better than what you have? Good luck ;)

I think I might still have one Martin, although I can't swear it'd be any better than yours. If I can find it you're welcome to it free gratis.
I fixed mine back in the eighties with a new shouldered bolt and a glacier du bush I seem to recall.
If it's the ball joints you can get generic ones off flea bay. Or rose joints. You can get them left and right hand threads and also get a left /right short stud.
We can always make our own in ally if necessary, I dare say.

I had a problem with worn splines on the gear shaft on the Honda Dommie a few years ago. Did all the usual, tin foil, opened up the slot in the gear lever etc. All was good, rode to the ferry with my mates for a long weekend to Scotland. Got to the ferry in Belfast, and blooming thing wouldn't change gear.
So, came off boat in Stranraer, and looked for a proper garage. Bike unloaded, dropped on side, and fella welded gear change to shaft. Only delayed us half an hour, wouldnt take any money, still doing its job, almost ten years on :)
It is a running joke, that every trip away on the Dommie, something brakes or vibrates itself to bits. Still a fantastic bike, full of character. Makes everything else feel far too smooth ;)

Thanks guys.Steve thanks - the evilbay ones look to be more corroded than mine but if they are less worn i could try to polish them up i suppose.I am unsure how much skill would be needed to modify mine?I'm realistically only capable of basic maintenance!Andrew-thanks-if you want to swap for other RS/XBR parts -let me know.Martin

Steve-i've just asked the seller how much wear there is in the linkage.
-
I wonder if a Superdream linkage would be the same?? Seems to be more choice of them on flea bay?? Dunno?? :-\

Ill have a look for it this weekend. I don't want anything for it. The only bit ill need to keep is the splined lever. The rest of it is redundant on Gordon. ;D

I believe it will be m6. That's what I've used on several projects although I couldn't swear to what the rs is without looking.

Thanks again guys-i've sent a question via Ebay.

I've been through my spares and found 3 other linkages-all with wear ,so i've fitted one of the spare ones and ordered the best one off Ebay...thanks again. Andrew if you still have a spare one and it's not too worn i'll be happy to pay you for it and if all else fails i'll try the rose joints off Ebay and play around with the various parts i have...Going to try out my bike with the spare one on later today.....
-
Just returned from test ride and all is well...100% improvement.......not one missed gear! ;D
-
New linkage has arrived courtesy of the bay of evil and there seems little if any play....Still running on one of my spare linkages at the moment as i've been on holiday this week and the RS has not been used.......more testing and fiddling to come no doubt......
-
Why mess about with linkages, I rode an RS for years with a stubby gear lever, worked absolutely fine
-
I did ponder that as well with all the potential wear points!
-
I used the same boots for years.
