Title: XBR spoke wheels
Post by: timbo on May 06, 2015, 12:05:28 PM
Just ordered stainless spokes from Central Wheels for a pair of wheels I'm fixing up. £166, ouch :-\
Now I know why these wheels are so expensive. Thank goodness the bike was bought for very little. Keeping the wheels as is, wasn't an option as the spokes were badly coroded.

Not wishing to be negative BUT have you checked that the drum on your rear spoked wheel isn't pulsing on braking?

It's a common XBR problem and can be a bugger to fix as it's usually corrosion between the alloy hub and steel brake drum which isn't thick enough to skim easily - thats why good XBR rear wheels are like hens teeth. If your bike is running it might be worth putting the spoked wheel in and giving it a run up the road or failing that give it a real good check before you fit your expensive shiny spokes.

....sorry to be a miserable git!....

I got mine from Central, dear arent they. Also mine had to go back cos they made them wrong. They wouldnt send them back as they wanted a second
£8 postage so i had to pick them up from a local dealer. It onlky cost me £2.50 to send them back robbing B******rds. The bend to swaged end distance was too short.
Al built up and RS250 wheel fitted now and they do lok good.
I spoked it trued it and fitted the tyre mtself.

The hubs and rear drum and rims cleaned up well and seem in good order, though I'll repaint the hubs. On phoning Central Wheels with spoke dimensions, they said they were unusual, so I had to send them samples. So they should get them right first time  ;)

I know you've probably all had sleepless nights over these wheels. well, they turned out fantastic. Then I went and sold them to a mate  ::)
